Locked IN! How to fix Anderson Hinged Patio Door Lock?
Comments (13)Last weekend the handle seized as it was pulled upward to lock the active door. After first removing, oiling and replacing the inside door handle, I repeated the process on the outside door handle with no luck. Today, I tried Kashmi's July 6, 2011 post regarding pushing out on the door while pushing down on the handle. This senior citizen had to alternate the pushing of door and handle, but with gradual movement of both. Finally gave it all I had left and the door opened! I've oiled the parts not accessible when the doors are closed and they operate better than when new. Thank you for the knowledge that it was not just this door lock that had jammed and the help to resolve the problem....See MoreGlass doors and locks (...in the kitchen!)
Comments (8)Ha, if only our dog liked to be on his own in the backyard---he's a big wuss (shh, don't tell the robbers!) and gets anxious and cries if he has to stay outside by himself when we're inside. He practically had a meltdown earlier this week when we had to shut him in the garage for two days straight (only during the working hours, of course!), since it was pouring and the guys plastering the kitchen wanted to come and go through the front door since it chopped off a bunch of walking-around-house-in-rain time...having the dog underfoot complicated that plan, so out he went. He also, more problematically, knows how to open our garden gate and has been known to come to the front door to ask to be let in if he thinks his whimpering at the backdoor is not being heard (read: is being ignored) so I would be a little nervous leaving him alone in case he took off completely to find us, too. Ah, well. Someday I will have a dog who likes to sleep in a dog house and will wait patiently for me outside the grocery store...but it's sure not this one! :)...See MoreAndersen Sliding Glass Doors- 100 Series or 200 Series
Comments (3)It seems this may not be a common question, so I'll share what I have figured out in case anyone else comes looking on this forum. I finally found a distributor who had a 100 series sliding door in their showroom that I could look at. It is a clear step down in how smooth the glide is from the 400 series. It doesn't roll with the ball bearings, and has the look/feel of an entry level door (which is what Andersen calls it, so I guess that is fair). I have not yet found a 200 series Narrow Line door that I can test out. My local Home Depot has a 400 series door, the one a little farther away has a Perma-shield door, but no narrow line. If anyone wants to chime in and comment on the functionality of a Narrow Line 200 series door, I would appreciate it! Thanks!...See MoreReplacing sliding glass door(s) with soundproof glass doors?
Comments (21)If you already have a double pane door, the problem may not be the door. Before going into expense of adding another layer of drywall to the walls and ceiling and replacing the door, I would check other things. Like bathroom exhaust fan ducting...is it insulated? HVAC ducts. Plumbing vents. Gaskets on all the exterior wall switches & receptacles as well as ceiling lights. Recessed light cans? Pull a piece of door/ window trim and check that the space between the jamb and framing is insulated....See Moreron6519
