Looks like a Thanksgiving cactus, not Christmas. Flower form and 'claws' on the stem segments indicate identity.

HGC stands for Helleborus Gold Collection, a series of plants produced by an exceptional breeding program developed in Germany by Josef Heuger. Rather than focusing on the more commonplace xhybridus type plants, Heuger devoted his attention to first improving the quality, disease resistance and flower potential of Helleborus niger, the Christmas or black rose, and then moving on to more complex hybrids like the ballardiae, sternii and ericsmithii hellebores. 'Pink Frost' is an HGC xballardiae selection. These hybrid selections are known for being particularly robust plants, producing flowers early in both the plant's life as well as early in the season. They are also known for the number of flowers they produce over a very long bloom season, the fact that the flowers are held very upright and erect and their handsome mottled or veined evergreen foliage. Hellebores are really not at all finicky to grow. They are tolerant of a range of soil conditions as long as the soil is well drained and is of reasonable fertility. They are more sun tolerant than many would assume and will flower best if receiving some direct sunlight in early winter (like planting under the canopy of deciduous trees). H. niger is hardy to zone 4, most other hybrids to zone 5 and a few select species and hybrids to zone 7 or above. They are drought tolerant once established and seldom require much in the way of supplemental fertilization. Just don't plant them too deeply - that can affect both the flowering and the long term health of the plant. There are several HGC niger cultivars to select from - 'Jacob' (as shown above), 'Josef Lemper' (the first offering in the series), 'Jonas' and 'Joel'.

Indeed, Jeff! That is one reason why I have zero interest in living down South (been there, done that). The lack of seasons bores me. By the time a Mi winter ends, I am ready for spring and, I believe, enjoy spring's warmer temps and vibrant colors that much more because of the winter's cold and the preponderance of grey days. Not a huge fan of summer as I don't do heat well, but I do enjoy summering many of my plants outdoors on my balcony and growing fragrant annuals like sweet alyssum in pots. Summer makes me appreciate autumn's cooler temps even more and I have always loved seeing the trees change colors. That brings us back full circle to winter's deep hushed quiets, sunlight's brilliant glimmer on icicles and new fallen snow, snuggled cozily indoors with a cup of something hot while the winter winds sigh and moan outside.... For that matter, switching to a plant related theme, I do admit to getting bored with plants that are in bloom "too long." I realize that may sound odd to many, but after a point, I find that cease to "see" flowers on a plant that has already been in bloom for a month or more. They just become unnoticed background.
