Eat at a high end restaurant for $2!

Hey everyone, for this weekend only you can get gift certificates to almost any restaurant for $2! some restrictions apply depending on each restaurant. It seems like they have these promotions every month. My fiance' and I used one last month, it really worked, LOL! We were so shocked!

We've used it a few times with good results. It helps the restaurants because we have tried places we would not have eaten at otherwise.

I don't quite understand the restaurants limitations. What would this mean?

"Valid for dinner menu only with a minimum purchase of $50/2 entrees".

This is a little neighborhood place and none of their dinners are anywhere near $25. Friend and I stop there for lunch once in a while just because of the location but wouldn't be a destination if going out.

Some of the others have minimums of $35. too, or is that just minimum order for the certificates?

That's a great setup! My chickens don't have aluminum or their choice of directions to go to select a nest box. Your girls have the Hilton; mine have Motel 6. They're ok, though. 9 mos of the year they get to go free-range during the day. If they get too enthusiastic about rearranging mulch in the flowerbeds, or checking out the roots on the Hostas, I send the dog to mix 'em up. She never chases them unless I tell her, "Get 'em out of there!" and then she does. (She's old enough that she doesn't over-do it.) Chickens are indeed great for manufacturing quick compost! As long as there's no buildup in one spot, the "leavings" dry out and crumble into the ground pretty quickly. Now pigs....UH-UH, no way!! They might be good garbage recyclers, but... We've got some neighbors that used to (thank goodness for past tense) keep hogs, and they're very lax about keeping any of their livestock penned or fenced. (Nice enough people, but they never quite get around to doing the work that needs to be done.) Their piggies would get into our alfalfa field, and you almost wouldn't believe the damage they could do! They dig up sod looking for roots, worms and grubs--- unbelievable how strong those snouts are! They can just churn through roots and soil, and a few hogs can leave HUGE wallows (the size of a semi trailer) in a day. Not a good yard pet! (For those who aren't familiar with them-- that's why people used to pierce hogs' noses and give them nose rings-- it slowed their digging.) Anyway, they muck around and leave compacted, rough, nasty, destruction in their wake. -----------I'm not talking pot-bellied pigs here, but farm hogs like Yorkshires (in our neighbors' case) or Hampshires. We got piglets in barter a couple times in years past. We have no place for them now. Penned, they're ok (stinky poop, but...) They're good garbage machines, but I'm not good with the idea of butchering them. I eat pork, but I can't have known the pig and fed it scraps :(

UPDATE: We went to Home Depot and the kitchen designer was able to put together a plan for an upside down L shape kitchen with the peninsular. I think we will also look at doing an upside down U shape kitchen with the stove in the same place with windows on each side, lowers only to the left and the sink, dishwasher and 30' fridge on the right wall, covering at least one of the side wall windows. This would leave us no peninsular, but there is actually a peninsular alread on the other side of the dining room. I know that sounds really strange, so here's a pic. That wall is structural, so we may as well leave it. It might look odd to have two peninsulars in a row in such a small house? Here's a pic so you can see what I mean. We're trying to remove blockages in the house, so the book shelf you can see is coming out, and the wall we are trying to get rid of is the one with the painting on it. I hope this makes some sense to someone with vision! I wish I knew how to use the tools to map it out for you all online.

I think at the time i took a few pictures...then realized it is a personal choice i made and did not intend to convince one to do the same. I'm a bit of an obsessive modernist and have a small efficient kitchen. No counter appliances. (I need the space clear). And clean. Multi-task and pull out what i need and clean as i go...i have the blendtec used in juice bars and places like starbucks. It is under my sink-side drain board. I move the drain board to the other side of the sink and have three blendtec canisters just above in a cabinet so it is painlessly quick to use. In the past i did not use a blender much. I always had one tucked away and made something a few times a year...pesto, humus, da da da. (i do understand those that do not want one). The last crap one bought for those few times a year...glass caraf, cheap but looked fine, probably kitchenAid...used 3-4 times in 5 years...crapped out that 4th time. Furious at inferior appliance purchases and what dcarch points out so clearly about construction of cheaper made appliances all the time... Same with coffee makers. The temp is all wrong after a year or so...as dcarch points out. Because it works so well, i use it more often. And i don't need to haul it out of the pantry. I've been making my own mustards, a ketchup that is not so sweet, humus the way we like it, etc. Being next to the sink it cleans easily with a bit of soap and water and buzzed a few seconds. Can also go in the dishwasher. I often just add a bit of lemon, ac vinegar and olive oil to what remains in the jar and make a quick salad dressing to 'clean' the jar. Toasted sesame seeds, a bit of ginger, lemon, for a different dressing we take to work or for home. If a bit of humus is clinging to the jar...i make a salad dressing. I'll use it tonight for a chowder. Take half of it to puree for a veggie creamy texture. It does blend very fine and quickly as all the better ones do. Tossing the stick blender. Probably a bit more quiet as the motor is under the counter.

I eat out occasionally. I am still in the process of getting my house ready for the market down in CT and all my kitchen is up here in MA. So while I'll roast something small in the oven (or if I'm spending the night, I might use the grill that will be trashed shortly) I'm not really cooking when I'm there. I'm out for breakfast at a local diner or deli - an omelet or an eggs Benedict isn't too pricey. I may drop by a local Asian place where I order hot and sour soup and an appetizer for not very much. They make a killer avocado salad with the whole avocado, not a blemish on any slice! (A ramen place just opened up there, too...) BLT's are my standby at diners for lunch or dinner. Up here in MA restaurants are a bit further away. If I'm in one town for errands I might stop in for a $7 bowl of Vietnamese pho, or in the other town, I hit up a lettuce wrapped burger at Five Guys Burgers and Fries. However, the closest places are just not very good. Driving back and forth between MA and CT I may stop in for a $2.50 slice of pizza, which they heat up and I can eat quickly, no muss, no fuss. There are occasions when I dine out with others - a friend may make a suggestion, and off we go. My book club meets at restaurants once a month, and usually we go for "ethnic" foods, and I'll try something unique on the menu. If I like it, I may try recreating it at home down the road. If I lived closer to NYC, I'd be eating out in the Chinatowns, Koreatowns and other enclaves of great world cuisine, often. Once I'm fully settled into MA, I'll probably only be eating out at restaurants once or twice every other week. If that. I LOVE home cooking! I do wish western MA had more quality seafood at grocery stores, so I am usually bringing some up from CT when I return here. (This isn't counting the local community center, which serves up food twice weekly by donation, and which I go to about once a week, essentially to meet my neighbors and get to know them better. If the meal is something I dislike, ie, meatloaf or turkey breast, I'll have a simple salad and maybe a veggie and a glass of water or unsweetened ice tea.)

Hey, Canadians!

Does anyone know whether this is available in Canada, or parts thereof, or is it another of those "U.S. only" things?

I get many messages, almost daily, with various offers, carrying the proviso, "Must be 18 years of age or older and a U.S. resident".

I used to rush to the pizza or sub shops at closing time and sometimes walk away with exta pizza or just a ton of food that they wasnt picked up they normally would toss for the price of one.

Taco bells here used to load me up at the drive through at closing time. Order two each of a couple of things and get home to find 10 of each plus a bonus or two.

breenthumb the minimums are generally for the entire bill. For instance it may be a $20/$30 ($20 off a $30 purchase), $25/$35, etc.

Google restaurant.com coupon codes. They will run coupon codes for 80% off, 70% off, and once or twice a year a 90% off code. Those percentages are off the regular price of $4 for a $25 gift certificate. The current code is only 60% off with some free gift certificate to somewhereoranother. The 80% off code was last week.

Some certificates, especially those that are $10/$10 or $25/$25 go fast and are not restocked regularly.

I use restaurant....com frequently. One of our favorite restaurants is on the list. I don't want to wear out my welcome at this place by using the coupons every time so I only use one when we are taking friends who have never been there.

I always check for these coupons in the area we will be traveling. Example: We will be in Denver area for a week and I have bought two coupons using the latest 80% off code.

So, may I buy four certificates and use them all at the same time, if there's nothing on the restaurant.com site saying I can't?

Never mind, I read the terms and conditions - one certificate at a time. I was surprised, because some the restaurants specifically say this and some don't, so I figured that it wasn't a general rule.
