silver or grey color that works with gold

I'm toying with the idea of painting large horizontal stripes in the same or close color, alternating matte and satin finish in my dining room.

I have my Mother's china. It's Lenox Eternal.

The table and chairs are mahogany. Hardwood floors, no stain, poly finish.

Can anyone suggest a silver or grey color that would complement the gold in the china?

I don't think you need to worry too much about the gold rim on the Eternal pattern vs. paint color.

I have a platinum rim on one of my Lenox patterns, as well as gold on two other china patterns that I use for entertaining. Our DR has been painted several different colors over the years. Never took the platinum/gold rim into consideration, nor the fact that I use silver serving pieces etc.

There are a few other touches of gold in the room. A gold framed mirror and a lamp with gold trim.
Gold is really the only color in the room so I'd like a silver or grey that would complement it.
It's a dark room.
Any suggestions?

Red, I don't have any silver to trade right now because I still need what I have to finish my Grandma's Kitchen quilt. But I did find some really pretty silver metallic fabric online a while back when I was looking. It's from the Michael Miller line "Fairy Frost". Very pretty colors! Susan, yes they are too tall. They should ideally be no taller than than about one inch-maybe 2 inches-higher than the sofa arms. Yours are 6 or 8 inches taller than the sofa arms. Possibly look into having the legs shortened?

I don't think gold is a bad choice for your dining room however the gold on that RH mirror is REALLY gold. There are golds out there that are "softer." I know you love that mirror but perhaps finding one in a softer gold would make this choice more of a no brainer. I also think something in a more unexpected style might be nice. For instance Three of any of these over the long Buffet/console Or something like these hung horizontally

Hmm Lisa...I am guessing SSwiddows has very good sealer. My slabs are honed, not leathered. I chose these because I really like soapstone but did not want the maintenance. I may as well have bought that with the maintenance I have with the silver grey. I put a crockpot on it with a towel underneath. It took over a week for the dark spot to go away. Again, I will be spraying on a sealer and hope that will make a difference. Will have to look in the search for "good sealer" and hope to find some suggestions.

I'd say a warmer gray, one that had red or yellow in it. What would a pale white lavender gray look like? It would be like a complementary color scheme. I like your idea of trying to work with the gold. Color can be tricky, and color can be used in a way that either sings or hits a sour note.

I have grey and gold in my dining room. The grey is BM ozark shadows. I don't know how well it works though. I wasn't going for that look....the drapes were an accident that I decided to go with. I'll let you be the judge. I apologize in advance for the poor white balance:

Well, this is one thing I am not going to add to my "worry - will this work list". Mentally I will crack if I have to now worry if my china will match my walls, drapes, etc.

My china is white with silver, pinky mauve and light (sycamore) green. I have light green on my walls now, but do plan on changing the wall color - If my darn old china doesn't match - so be it !! I am not going to buy new china that I use 3 x a year nor paint my walls to match it...I am rebeling on this one, ladies....LOL

I used the lenox pattern as a point of reference because it is the same color gold as the drapes and mirror.
I'm not trying to match the china. I'd just like the gold accents in the room to look nice with the wall color.
Thanks for the pictures Regina. Pretty room. Your room is so much brighter than mine. I have dark woodwork.
