Please Help, sorry long post (Pics)

I am a total micromanager, so I don't think I will use a designer again. I feel bad, I have totally been getting on their nerves. That being said please help me decide if I should make a final stand. We had finally come to agreement on all the pieces and were ready to order. Then we found out the dresser I loved, is sold out and on backorder for at least 10-12 weeks. They found a Bernhardt dresser/mirror, and they said it's a higher end brand and would have been outside my budget, but it's discontinued and being liquidated for the same price with the mirror as my original dresser. I don't know anything about designer furniture, I just know the Bernhardt does not have that transitional feel the rest of the room does, looks pretty traditional to me. I am concerned it sticks out like a sore thumb, especially compared to the desk. Should I trust the designer, or tell them I will wait for the original dresser? Please let me know what you think.

I think the legs on the dresser is what makes the difference. The second dresser just appears too heavy IMO. I'd say wait the first one! Looks like it will be a beautiful space though!

I just waited 6 months for a chair and ottoman, and have no regrets, I love them.

If you really love it, waiting 10-12 weeks is worth it.

I agree that composting in place is a good idea, especially if it would enable you to keep all the material onsite instead of sending some to the landfill, saving you both time and money. The concerns you have about turning the compost and covering the bins would be important to address if you wanted compost faster or had limited space. In your case, since you're not in a hurry, you have lots of land, and what you are doing is effective, the less work the better -- I think it 'll be more productive to figure out how you can spend less time on the composting process (move piles only once, to their final locations, for instance). I have 6 compost bins and a relatively small garden plot (at a community garden, so I have to use bins). I turn them rarely, and I get good compost. Without turning, it takes a little longer. My understanding is that turning can speed up the process if you monitor temperatures daily and turn after the temperature spikes and then declines, and that otherwise turning doesn't make so much of a difference. Covering compost does help control moisture levels and help keep the compost critters warm and happy, but if it works without covers, that's ok too. I have one bin made from hardware cloth, which was drying out too much during the dry season, so I added some cardboard to keep moisture in. It's not pretty, but after one dry season, it does look like it has been very effective. Again, the cardboard sides and the cover help speed up the composting process by conserving moisture (and, to a much lesser extent, heat), but I got compost the old way, too. When I do turn my piles, it's because I see ants, which tells me there are dry spots, so I water it and then (if I have time) turn it and make sure the materials are more evenly distributed. But dry spots usually occur if I've put in a bunch of stems and twigs, and not enough small loose stuff to fill the spaces, so the stems and twigs stay dry. If I were composting only horse manure and watered as I went along, dry spots probably would not occur.

From your description, your son needs to be institutionalized. That or military school -- if you can get any to take him. From your description, you're over your head. Probably way over. Don't pretend you're not. Do what you have to to get him out of your house and into some professional environment where he can be dealt with. From what you've described, "helping" your son is priority #2 at this point. Protecting yourselves, your daughter, and society is #1. Don't hesitate. You've described a very dangerous boy.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and kind thoughts. . .greatly appreciated!! I contacted my insurance adjuster on the original roof claim. While they are very interested in the outcome, they indicated that this is an issue between me and the roofing company. . .totally separate from the original claim on the roof. But they did give me some pointers on working through the situation. A water remediation company coming out tomorrow to do an assessment (based on the recommendation of my adjuster) so I think that will give me some idea of the full extent of the damage and where we need to go from there. I have taken lots of pictures and won't let anyone touch anything until I'm satisfied the damage has been fully documented. Dedtired, my attitude not really as good as it sounds. . .but as the expression goes. ."it is what it is" and nothing can change that. . .and I'm hoping that be being patient and somewhat understanding, they (roofing company) will be willing to do a little more than if I landed in the middle of them with combat boots. Then again, when you post your responses you always make the poster feel as if you are their own private decorator. You don't know how much I appreciate your response, your opinions to my little M.Bdrm dilemma here --Thank you!!! When you say a wide band all the way around, do you mean top and bottom of the panel, also? I will need about 2 inches to have the panels meet (when closed) with a little gather of the rings/fabric at the rod. Would 3 inches of band on each side of the panel be enough, do you think? Or should I go a bit more? But as per your suggestion, solid banding it is--Thank you! Light terracotta for the headboard -- it doesn't matter if the color of the fabric on the headboard is not the color of the coverlet? As long as the color is in the same family, right? What is the general guideline about a tailored bed skirt, same color family but different shade OK? I'm having a heck of a time when it comes to the colors Terracotta/Rust. Everyone has a different hue/shade of the color. Haven't been able to find any two that even come close so far but I'll keep looking for that special pillow I want to make. On the same thought, if I go with the Blue Banding on the panels, what if I have the same trouble finding the exact blue as in the window panel fabric? The blue is not blue-blue but has what seems like a bit of green. Not enough to make it aqua but enough. This is going to be a tuffy. *smile* As for the shams, oh how I would love to make matching shams (I'd have to read up on Welting 101 but I'd do it!) but I don't think I'll have enough fabric----eeeek! Unless I do the panels with a different color at the top and the print 3/4 the rest of the way. But that would bring me back to trying to figure out more color coordinating combos. Why oh why couldn't I have been born with even a tad of decorating gene *grrrrr* As for the dark bark green bed -- I love how it's turning out as long as the room's lights are on or at dusk. With natural light coming in the window each post, each side of each post of the bed takes on a different color---- Another Eeeeek! I'm thinking about adding an antiquing on top of the dark green just to unify the dark bark green color all around. The antiquing would look ok in the turns of the posts, no? Don't mind the temp bedding or stuff on night stands. All temp until I figure out what I'm doing. Colors of Footboard Post and Wall just to left of post are the true colors. So I ask daughters this morning what they thought of the direction I was taking in the bedroom and one said "Mom, looks like you're going for a Bold Mediterranean Mother Earth thing". The other daughter nodded wildly in agreement. *sigh* I haven't seen that style listed in any decor book.

I don't think it would look out of place. The squarish-elements speak to the rest of the elements in your room. Bernhardt is a great manufacturer, and they make quality pieces that will last a very long time. That being said, if you really love the other dresser, you should just wait. It's really not that long to wait in the grand scheme of things. Having just obsessed and micromanaged the entire build of a house, it's funny how when the entire thing is done, you forget about the little details you obsessed over and realize that the little things you fretted over, really aren't a big deal. I'm trying to keep things in perspective a bit more as I decorate our house, but it's a tough habit to get out of! Good luck!

Ten to 12 weeks is nothing, in the world of home design.
I'd wait.

I can already hear you in October, saying, "Oh, I wish I had waited; if I had, the thing I really wanted would be here now instead of this thing that is just enough off to blow the whole composition!"

And October will be here in about five minutes...

Tell your long-suffering designer that you will wait, and that you promise not to revisit the decision between now and then, and not to call him/her every week to ask if it's on schedule, and that you're ready to go ahead with everything else, and if you think you really have driven him/her nuts, send a lovely orchid on the day after the installation with a sweet note about how much you love, love, love everything, and appreciate his/her patience and forbearance.
We have all been driven batty by clients who care too much, and it's still better than clients who don't care at all.

Agree, the second one just doesn't quite fit. I'm thinking it's the wood tones more than the design, but yeah, wait for the first one.

Pulling together a design takes patience. There are always issues that stretch the time line or change the direction. I'll echo what other posters have said. Wait for the dresser you love. If you are dead set on something, don't compromise because you will always dissatisfied with the result.

Oh, and by the way...the choices you have made are lovely!

We put that same long, low console into an apartment in another city as our TV/media stand, and liked it so much that we bought another one for our house.

Thank you all so much for your post's. I really do feel like the bed leans a little traditional, the traditional dresser will just pull the whole room that direction. While the orginal dresser keeps it in that transitional feel.

I really appreciate all the comments, makes me feel confident I'm not a nutty client who doesn't see it :)

I have no patience in waiting for furniture, but in your case, I'd wait. Both choices are really nice. I love the style of your initial choice. And the second one blends well with your other choices. But I agree with ksoxgrl that the alternate one is too heavy and as someone else mentioned is more traditional, not transitional.

I would go for the Bernhardt. You have enough legs and vertical bars in the other pieces, you donÂt need legs on the dresser. Your other pieces are open, and this will help ground the space. Also, the panels on the Bernhardt seem a better match with the bed. Very nice pieces!

I like both dressers very well. I don't see the Bernhardt being very traditional at all, but I do realize that subtle differences can make or break a look and can take something from like it to love it. So, it's your call.

As someone has already pointed out the second one looks heavy and dated without the legs. The size of the mirror seems "off" too. I would wait. A three months wait is nothing for something you will enjoy for a lifetime.

Great choices. I would definitely wait for what I truly want. I think you may regret settling for something that can give you immediate gratification.

The dressers are much different in all but their shape. I like the one you first chose for your room. I like that the legs give a lighter feel to the piece, also I like the smaller, detached mirror. To me the 2nd piece seems off for some reason which may very well be that it isn't the best dresser choice considering your other pieces. Well worth the wait IMHO.

Whwn i worked with a designer in me FR and breakfast nook, it took 3 months for everything to come in. So, the time frame for the dresser you love is typical.

Your bedroom will be beautful. Just wait and see.
