Sinks: center or side drain & ideal depth of sink
Comments (7)As for how deep, how tall are you? How long are your arms? Do you have small children that occasionally will be using the sink? The deeper the sinks are, the more you'd need to reach. However, too shallow and you may have some difficulty washing large pots, cookie sheets, etc. I'm in a wheelchair, basically, think of me as being short =), so, if the sink is too deep, I'd be having a hard time reaching down the sink to pick up items and to clean it. I have a double-bowl sink. One side is 9" deep and the other side is 7" deep. I find these depth combination are comfortable for washing and for reaching. Any sink deeper than 9" would be a bit difficult to reach for me....See MoreDoes anyone like having a sink drain right of center?
Comments (15)thanks avignon, my sink is the anthracite (black) color. For me, it is so much better than stainless. The cheap builder's grade stainless sinks I've always had never looked good, the siligranite ALWAYS looks great! My counters are uba tuba. The pull down faucet is awesome, too. So much better than having a sprayer on the side. I debated between a pull down and a pull out and for me, the pull down works better because of the arthritis I have in my wrists. It was just more ergonomic for me. Mine is a Moen Aberdeen. Also, the single vs. double sink thing has been debated heavily here. For me it was simple, you can always add a basin to a single sink, making it a double. But you can't turn a double sink into a single! It all depends on how you use your sink, too. I don't hand wash many items so this just works best for me. Good luck with your remodel! You'll really love the siligranite sink!...See MoreNew under mount sink - drain off-center?
Comments (8)mike_lee- Are you saying that you're sure the hole for the sink is not in the center? The point vithdude was making is that, if the hole in the sink was larger than the drain tailpiece you mounted into it, you could have tightened down the basket strainer off-center. If, indeed you know that the hole in the sink is manufactured off-center, then nothing is wrong, other than that you are bothered by the slight mismatch of the grate with the drain. I doubt very much that your sink is any different from all the other ones of that model. That type of sink is typically formed by giant presses where the die shapes are fixed in place and do not depend on the skill of an operator to align anything. I think the tail is wagging the dog on this: you are concerned about a relatively minor asymmetry issue that you wouldn't likely have noticed if you hadn't decided to add the grate. I still don't see that this is worth any kind of radical tear-apart....See MoreHow to use Hercules Sink Harness with large single center drain sink
Comments (8)I just looked up the Precis. You can easily install it with the HUSH. The draw-tight will meet in the center, no problem. My method is better than the manufacturer's: Push a wire through a clip and twist it. With the sink lying face down and compensating for the cabinet width, take a guess at how long the wire will be short of half way across the sink by 6" or so. Bend the wire back and install the other clip at the same distance as the other. Screw the wire-twisted clips to the cabinet sides; you'll have a loop on each side. Drill a 1" hole in a 2x4 that sits above the drain when the 2x4 spans the opening. Pass a pipe clamp through the 2x4 and through the sink drain opening. Clamp the sink in place. Check the wires for distance. If you're too long or too short despite the adjustments on the HUSH, pull the sink and shorten/lengthen the wires. Re-clamp the sink and tighten the HUSH. If it all looks good, loosen the HUSH and clamp, apply silicone around the sink flange, tighten the clamp and HUSH, check your reveals, pull the clamp and you're done....See Morelattegirl1
