In some forums, people don't like too many posts with pictures. I can understand this attitude in a forum such as the rose forum, where there are many posts only with garden pictures. Not having the Gallery there would tend to overwhelm the posts that only want info about rose care. However, in most other forums, there aren't that many posts, and posting in the Galleries is almost a waste of time since few people seem to actually view the posts in the Gallery.

Yup, what James said! With the additional point that when it's correctly set up to choose a program it will flash at you in the 12 o'clock postion. I was also wondering if the child lock-out system had somehow been engaged. I've never fiddled around with it but perhaps it "kills" the machine, though I'll be switched if I know how you'd disenegage it to put things right. The other thing that occured to me was whether the cord from the machine was correctly attached. Do I recall that this machine was sold sans power cord and had to have one made and installed? (I could be thinking of another used 1918 purchaser, though.....) But if you did have a cord installed that would be where I'd double check as well. PS: Don't forget to examine all 4 incoming water filters - there's one on each end of each water line. This wouldn't affect a "dead" machine but if they have become clogged that will interfere with cycle progress once you get the thing going. I'm sorry you were not able to get the thing going promptly but I'm sure it can be worked out. Do you have a voltmeter electrical circuit testing thingy? That's the first thing my DH would get out to suss out where the power wasn't. I can ask him in the morning where he would be testing for this. Hope to hear it's getting sorted out. I'll keep an eye open for additional posts. MOlly~

homerguy, Since you didn't include the model of Kinetico or it's volume of resin for each tank nor the 40k softener you quote I can't check your math but I'll offer the following... In order to make an accurate comparison you need to consider at what salt dose each softener is regenerating and what volume of resin is being regenerated?. For example, 1 cubit foot of resin will soften: 20,000 grains with 6 lbs of salt 24,000 grains with 8 lbs of salt 27,000 grains with 10 lbs of salt 30,000 grains with 15 lbs of salt Another consideration of efficiency is that a twin resin tank softener will regenerate very close to the complete exhaustion of the resin's hardness removal capability while a single resin tank softener will regenerate early and usually lose the calculated reserve that has been set aside which wastes salt and water and over time will add up. Twin resin tank softeners make brine with softened water AND regenerate with softened water while some single resin tank softeners make brine with softened water but none that I know regenerate with softened water. Regenerating with soft water = longer resin life and reduces operating cost long term... efficiency related if you consider service life and repair cost.

No, keep the air gap because it's safer from a sanitation perspective than using a high loop. Do you see the tube (or spout) coming off of the garbage disposal in your photo? It's just above the waste drain coming off of your garbage disposal. That hose from the air gap should connect to that tube (or spout) coming off of the garbage disposal. Just make sure you unplug the electric cord for the garbage disposal and then use a hammer and a long screw driver and tap, tap, tap.....knock out the plug inside of the tube so the water from the dishwasher can flow into the garbage disposal. After you knock out the metal plug, then double check to make sure you unplugged the power to the garbage disposal before you reach your hand in and pull out the metal plug that you knocked out of the tube. It's very easy to do and not a big deal. Then connect the hose so it runs from the air gap to that tube on the garbage disposal and use a hose clamp to tighten the hose to the tube. That's how I have mine set up and it works fine. I installed my own air gap and also installed my garbage disposal and, as part of that process, I had to go to a plumbing supply store to pick up the right size hose to run from the air gap to the tube coming off of the garbage disposal. Maybe the hose you already have coming off of the air gap will work fine though.
