How to correct my mistake on the level of the house?
Comments (8)Thank you so much for all the suggestions. Keep them coming! Anne, I agree with you about getting a landscape architect and the house sitting on the market scares the heck out of me:) I'll post some pictures tomorrow. Krycek, Shrubbery seems like a good idea. The half foyer sounds very good too but DH will not like the idea of spending more money. Only the basement walls are constructed at this point but the framing is going to be done this week and I honestly don't know how much it will cost at this point to change them or if it is even feasible to do that. Creekside, I noticed that the builder finishes the exterior of the basement. Maybe I can ask him to not finish the exterior on the front and raise the grade. I am assuming about 5 ft of the basement walls will be above the ground. To raise the grade to atleast 3 ft for about 52 inches wide house, how much would it cost do you all think. I should talk to the builder but I want to do my homework before that. It is a walk up basement not a walkout basement. I am going to check with the builder about all these questions tomorrow. Worthy, Thankfully, the builder has finished the bricks all the way down. It is really good but I am not impressed by that look. If I post pictures, it will certainly help all of you visualize my thoughts. There are a couple of houses where they have created railings on the front with concrete spindles almost like a deck on the front but with brick floor and concrete spindles. I would like a more transitional look and looking for different ideas like these. Thank you all for your help again....See Morefixing a design snafu regarding exterior brick...
Comments (32)"First of all the mystery of the gable wall vs side wall must be clarified. The photo shows the gable wall projecting but not the side wall. Is that not the case?" YES -- this is the case, Ren. On both the front and rear of the garage. Pal -- your drawing is what I am proposing. Our HOA restrictions stipulate 75%+ of masonry,so siding the whole thing is not allowed. Here are a few more photos I took yesterday for more clarification. And what's the deal with the way that dormer was done???????? ugh...See MoreNeed help - Painting my brick house
Comments (66)I think it will look beautiful in a creamy white. I’d do charcoal (BM Charcoal Slate or FB Downpipe) garage doors u less you can replace and then 100% they should be a warm medium wood. I’d replace that section of diff materials in The garage gable with natural shakes and replace All the ornamental stuff with beams. Then do your landscaping like an English garden. It will be so gorgeous....See MoreOur poor bricks! Strip them? Paint them? :-(
Comments (14)I really like that one too. Standing up is difficult however it is business deal not a personal attack on the contractor In the future you should print a color picture of what you want (vision) and do a specific diagram with measurements and material specifications for them and attach it to the bid/proposal for everyone to sign. Nothing fancy but specific. That way no questions and any reputable craftsman will appreciate it. I have run into situations where the only thing I can say is NO that’s not going to work. (rip out entire floor and replace at your expense) oh gosh :) eek it’s difficult but it’s business period. Small words short sentences lol. Good luck and you’re almost there and i dont suggest painting over it. It adds a textural layer to the room....See More- 18 years ago
