Tiling over tile (ceramic tile)

I have a out dated bath room with 6x6 cube tile in bath and shower area. and small tile on floor with 8x8 tlle molding around bath rooom.....Can I tile over this and remodel to a surround bath? If so how and what tipe of job wil this be. especiallly the wall tile

Over floor, yes (sometimes), but not over the walls. This requires removal of the existing walls, then new wall material, cement backer board, etc. then tile - a full job.

And be sure to pick a pro. I got a call to look at a 4 yr old (new) shower that was part of a new addition. They said a couple tiles (wall mosaic) were a bit loose, and it was leaking into the basement. When I removed the tile, silicone patch and scratched out the grout, I could see the corner wall studs an inch wide! Not a good install, but shows what some guys will do to save time and materials.

Depends on what is behind the tile.
A full mud bed job can be tiled over if there are no signs of any leaks.

Anything on cement board should be removed and replaced.

Unless you grind up the tiles and inhale them, there is little risk. It's "encapsulated (sealed in by the vinyl) Remove a few tiles and see how they were installed ... post pictures and we can figure out the best approach for getting rid of them.

Please post what you learn there back over here as this will be of interest to many. We have two areas in our house where there is tile over tile in place for 4+ years, and neither area has evidenced any problems. However, it was a lot of work to do correctly. (It would have been more to remove the tile, which we did try first, because it was STUCK!) In both cases, the lower tile floor was in absolutely perfect structural shape -- no cracks or hollow-sounding spots. And before going over the top, we roughened up the surface of the lower layer to assure good adhesion. Sewhappy - It sounds to me like your seller did a 'quick and dirty' remodel for sale, and probably skimped on the floor preparation since it wouldn't show. Wouldn't show prior to the sale, anyway... It might be worth a little research to see if you have any recourse.

ceramic tile over existing wood deck?

i am planning to remove my old deck boards (which I plan to use in my pasture) and put down treated 3/4" plywood. I've been told i can put ceramic tile on that and grout it in, but i'm not sure so I plan to put backer board on top of the plywood and then lay the tile and seal the grout. Should I use regular thinset or construction adhesive to adhere the tile? Should I use grout with or without sand? How much grout space should I leave? This is an uncovered outside deck. Will this hold up outside?

i ripped out hideous brown tile and put in 12" white tile in bath. about 25 sq ft. i hate it. way too boring. i want to take it out and put something in with some color/character. maybe even in floor heat. original materials was 200. big deal. a pro won't even talk to me for less than that.
