Does anyone have soft close hinges on their upper corner cabinet?

We have soft close (the type that closes by itself once you give a a slight push) hinges on all our upper cabinets EXCEPT the corner lazy susan cabinet. Our cabinet maker says that they don't make this type of hinge for it.

Is this true? Does anyone have one? If so, do you know what brand hinge it is?

Is it a corner cabinet with the door on the diagonal? Or is it a bi-fold style?

I don't have a lazy-susan (yet), but have a corner with both styles. The base corner is hinged door (bi-fold), the upper is on the diagonal. They are BOTH blumotion soft close.

Truly on the base bi-fold its a waste and a complete PITA (for me at least). It's very clumsy and takes up room I need to access base cabinet.

Not certain of your door style, type of hinge, etc. Mine are inset with hidden hinge and they are all blumotion soft-close (for what its worth).

They do exist. Was your KD suggesting that it would be better not to have them on corner units? A picture of the corner in question may shed light.

We installed the dampers after the fact on all our doors except the corner sink cabinet. The dampers we bought didn't work on it. When I looked at the door I realized that I think it's b/c the corner sink cabinet has a partial overlay door (to allow it to open fully) and all the other doors (base & upper) are full overlay.

To use the dampers on partial overlay, spacers are needed. We haven't gotten around to ordering another damper + spacers. If you have a diagonal door for the corner lazy susan, then you may have the same situation.

We did use the damper + the extra one I ordered in the PR, so no waste.

I decided to do a blind upper corner because it gave me full double-door cabinets on either side of the corner, which I found more useful than a hinged cabinet with a deep corner. I also didn't want large doors that opened so close to my face. Had that in my old kitchen. I have a 24" cabinet on the stove side and a 28" on the fridge side. The blind cabinet next to the 24" cab has a 12" door, and yes, it's tight. I keep paper towels and napkins in there--large items that I can just grab a corner of--or multiples of items like canned cat food. I sacrificed the bottom corner so I could do two drawer stacks on each side of the corner. Some people will say it's crazy to give up precious storage in a small kitchen, but I found that with cabs up to the ceiling, a pull-out pantry, and a deep refrigerator cabinet, I have some empty shelves in my wall cabinets.

Change the cabinet to a design that would use a 90 deg. hinge. Alternately, affix some soft cushion bumpers to the door so the shutting is silenced. I guess hinges with other-than-90 deg. closure are not sold in numbers large enough to justify the cost of adapting to the soft-close option. Casey

I'm a KD, here's what I think: -That kind of cabinet is usually called an "easy reach lazy susan" -A good number of people find the doors awkward. Some don't. -Be sure to order a few extra hinges. I have found this is the #1 hinge that people call in with warranty issues. It's a really big hinge that connects the two doors. -Custom cabinet companies offer different hinge options (ie. piano type hinge) that are easier to open and have MUCH less replacement worries. -If your design and budget allow, a better option is a diagonal lazy susan. You have a regular hinged door, a full circle susan and extra countertop space. PROS on this type: Won't work next to an appliance without a filler, will cost extra $ for your countertop and the 'opening' is smaller with the diagonal unit. See if you can open both types and see what you think. Bottom line: If you're going custom, check out the different hinge options. If you're going stock or semi-custom, open the doors and see if they annoy you. If not, then they will service you just fine! And consider the diagonal type as well. Kompy

I'm guessing that place in Santa Ana was Austin Hardwood? If so, I seriously doubt they were mis-packaged intentionally by Austin, but still hard to understand how K-Vs came out of Blum packaging? I buy all my glides and hinges there, one of the best selections in Orange County, and a reputable old time family business. As others have mentioned, to accommodate Blum bottom mount glides, drawer boxes must be ordered and made specifically with the proper recessed bottom. Your drawers have the 1/2" side clearance to accept side glides, and very unlikely have the bottom recess to enable the use of bottom mount glides no matter what mfg. FWIW, I've liked and used Accuride side mount glides for dozens of years with great results. Especially for extra heavy large drawers, pantry pull outs and file cabinets...

According to my cabinet maker, the trick is that there is a different hinge which opens farther, and is more expensive. Since I like my cabinets to open all the way, I'm (ULP!!) getting them on all the doors that aren't against walls. They'll annoy me otherwise.

The full extension (170 degrees, I think) doesn't have the soft close on the hinge, but instead has a piece that goes in the middle (between the upper and lower hinge) that is supposed to do the trick.

september_home: I have both as well and the cabinet maker told me that they don't make self (soft) close for either one. Our cabinets are full overlay. I will try to take a picture.

It sounds like your cabinet maker isn't aware of what is available. I am using blum soft close for doors with standard compact hinges. These are idiot proof and can be added to any door (it may take 2 for really large doors). They screw onto the frame and work independently of the hinge. Good luck!
