May I suggest that it might possibly because there is not enough difference between the day and nighttime temperature? Many of these plants originate from the Atlantic forest, an area of Brazil very close to where we live. Climatic conditions are very different from those inside the average house! In spring and fall, which are the two hottest seasons, they can soar to 90+ during the day, dropping back at night to around 60. In "winter", which is often very dry, conditions are even more extreme with a daytime max of about 80, falling at night to around 45-50, which is a lot cooler. Only in summer, which is usually more cloudy and wet is there not so much difference between the day and nighttime temp, 70-85. What you could do is put your plants outdoors for part of the year, so that they get exposed to a bigger diurnal range. Most of my plants are autumn flowering, but yours might not be.

All my jugs are right where I put them back before we got 3 ft. of snow so I'm not one bit worried about finding them. I AM wondering where I'll put more jugs since the snow we've got is now frozen solid. When it was nice, soft powder I could just plop the jugs down in it and know they'd be fine. Glad I got so many done before we were buried with all this snow. Six more inches fell this morning and they're warning us another big storm is on the way for this coming Tuesday/Wednesday. My nice wide driveway is already down to one car width that has a 3 inch thick coating of ice. Forecast calls for minus 10 degrees on Sunday so the ice isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Same with the snow & ice on my roof. Winter in New England is not for wussies.

Probably won't take the time today, although it sounds like a great idea. I've been running up and down the stairs, cleaning house, watered the horses, laundry, going to work at the green house in a few mins (love that job), want to plant the rest of my pots and mow this afternoon if I can stand the wind and possibly steam vac the basement carpet if I find some time. Got to run to the store sometime too. I'd like to put in a few tummy crunches, see if I have a muscle in there still.:) That will be the exercise today. It's windy, humid and going to be in the high 80's today. I need to find my googles so I can mow!
