Comments (5)I could have written a lot of this - we are also going to get sheet vinyl and Cambria countertops. It's also a smallish space without much natural light and I want it to feel as light and open as possible. For your floor, I think a lot depends on the color of the cabinets, because they will be in between the counter and floor. For us, we are probably getting Cambria Newhaven with fairly dark cherry cabinets. I'm planning for the floor to be approximately the same color as the counter but with less movement and contrast than the Cambria has. I think that will tie the darker cabinets in with the countertop, but the floor won't draw too much attention to itself. We've looked at all the sheet vinyl options we can find and our favorites were the premium Mannington designs. They look the most realistic to us, with texture that comes closest to real stone. There were a several patterns that we really liked....See MoreKitchen/sunroom/'nook' layout take 2 (long, pics)
Comments (6)Thanks, lavender! We don't have a furniture plan, really. It had been a outdoor porch (hence the step down from the rest of the place) that had had the screens replaced by windows. It's heated by an electric baseboard heater that you turn on with a knob on the wall (and then hear $$$ flying out the dozens of windows...). There's a huge sliding glass door from the current DR/new kitchen area, which we pretty much keep closed in the winter, and open in the summer when it is our (my) gardening dumping ground. Making it into a real room is basically adding a whole new room on to the house, and we're not really sure WHAT to do with it. We'll probably put a table and chairs near the bumpout on the long wall, but that leaves a lot of empty space. Because it will be so sunny, I'd like there to be some plants, probably mostly herbs, in there - but again, it leaves a lot of empty space. Thoughts on how to fill it, anyone? :)...See Morehow to arrange table and chairs in sunroom off kitchen
Comments (15)monablair - we would have to turn the table in order to open it up. On the other end we plan to have our stools under the penisula and plan to use it as you mentioned a place to mingle while I'm in the kitchen. I'm not sure if the space will be too cluttered, but were considering a small sitting area, maybe a storage bench similar to this or these sitting stools. http://www.potterybarn.com/products/tanner-stool/popup/more-views.html#hero-image http://www.pier1.com/Catalog/Furniture/Furniture/tabid/519/CategoryID/157/List/0/catpagesize/0/Level/a/ProductID/3039/ProductName/Zahir-Storage-Bench/Default.aspx...See MoreIncorporating pine-walled sunroom with traditional kitchen
Comments (3)If it is just a sunroom, it must have lots of windows, so maybe you could live with it and use lots of light matted artwork. I had much more of it than just a sunporch, and I had to paint it. I could not live with the knotty pine walls. They were so depressing: I felt like I was living in a cave because we have heavy shade. The only place I find dark pine attractive is on the floor. I have had it in several homes, and I painted it every time and never regretted it....See MoreUser
