Kitchen/sunroom/'nook' layout take 2 (long, pics)
Comments (6)Thanks, lavender! We don't have a furniture plan, really. It had been a outdoor porch (hence the step down from the rest of the place) that had had the screens replaced by windows. It's heated by an electric baseboard heater that you turn on with a knob on the wall (and then hear $$$ flying out the dozens of windows...). There's a huge sliding glass door from the current DR/new kitchen area, which we pretty much keep closed in the winter, and open in the summer when it is our (my) gardening dumping ground. Making it into a real room is basically adding a whole new room on to the house, and we're not really sure WHAT to do with it. We'll probably put a table and chairs near the bumpout on the long wall, but that leaves a lot of empty space. Because it will be so sunny, I'd like there to be some plants, probably mostly herbs, in there - but again, it leaves a lot of empty space. Thoughts on how to fill it, anyone? :)...See MoreHow to update sunroom affordably?
Comments (19)@bellburgmaggie houses in our neighborhood go for around $150/sf, but are typically Victorians that need a lot of work, or have been stripped of everything historic inside. Our house is different in that is has a lot of historic detail and we have renovated a ton and fixed major systems. That might effect our pricing in our favor some, but unfortunately, spending that much on this room for so little square footage wouldn’t be recouped. I think we will live with the room as is and then keep our eyes out for new property....See MorePlease help with kitchen to sunroom transition and rug placement
Comments (10)I’m jealous of the beautiful space you have. All those windows are great. My suggestion would be to make a dinette area on the wall where the tv is currently. To furnish it I would use an upholstered bench along the wall flanked by two small bookcases. Find a narrow table to use with a couple of side chairs opposite the bench. I would keep the sofa where is is but pull it out from windows by about a foot. Try sliding the chair to opposite end of the sofa so that it faces the windows. Get a beautiful tv cabinet (keep it low) and place it with the tv in the area that the cafe table is currently. The tv will block the window slightly but will will be unobtrusive in that corner. Shades will be a must if you plan to watch tv without glare during the day. Plus will help with cooling the room in summer and make it more comfortable to use that space. I would use small recessed lighting above the dining area. A couple that shine down on table and one the could shine on a pice of artwork above the bench. I’m also a believer in dimmer switches as I like to dim lights at night for mood lighting. I would also use floor lamps to flank the sofa. I would suggest tripod style lamps as they make a great transitional look. Add a rug and you’ll have a wonderful room....See MoreNeed help with furniture layout for a small sunroom
Comments (38)A narrow entry door is also a limiting factor. Is the exterior door from sunroom wider? Usually exterior doors are 36” wide. So that gives a way in. Plus, some of the swivel bases can be removed which would help. I can’t be sure without careful measurements. I would prefer a cozy love seat and one swivel chair. For several reasons. First, your “line of sight” coming into this room is looking at shorter wall. That is your focal point wall. The cozy loveseat you can curl up on with a book, would be my choice. Then perhaps a “C” table near the loveseat with an arc lamp that can be positioned over reading spot. Add art on that wall. Then you could position two compact chairs for added seating across from that piece. Small drink tables and that’s it. Might add cute small ottoman that could act as small table with a small tray when needed. Just depends on how you realistically will use this room....See Moreyborgal
