Best placement for sunroom?
Comments (16)We are also considering a sunroom on our future home to be built in South Carolina. In doing my research on the sensibility of a sunroom in SC I came across a window manufacturer who promotes triple glazed (3 panes of glass) for sunrooms. He had an exhibit set up in his showroom with three radiant heat lamps, the kind with the red bulb often seen in bathrooms. Positioned just a few inches in front of each lamp was a window. One set up had a single-glazed window, the next had a double-glazed window, and the third had a triple-glazed window. To demonstrate how radiant heat penetrates the window, I put my hand in front of the window to feel for the heat. The single glazed felt like nothing was between my hand and the lamp, the double glazed cut down on the radiant heat quite well. But the triple glazed window cut down so much on the radiant heat that I could not even feel the heat. Our sunroom will be on the north side of the house but in mid-summer with the sun reaching its furthest northerly point on the horizon, we will get some late afternoon/evening sun as it sets. We will use triple glazed windows to cut the radiant heat. I may end up designing the room with less window area than I had hoped for to better manage the heat gain. I think that sunroom designs and locations are very dependent on the region you are in and the amount of sun blocked by trees or structures. It is hard to relate an experience in Texas with one in Minnesota. Early on we thought we would do a screen porch but so many people say that the porch gets so dirty and dusty that you end up either cleaning daily or you end up not using it. There is no perfect solution!...See MoreMOST AWKWARD shaped living/sunroom/kitchen ever!! HELP!!
Comments (46)I’m digging the 3rd one! My style is contemporary and/modern. Do You think I need it to to be big enough for all the furniture to go on? I’d probably need a 9x12 or even 10x13 to fit it all. Or should it just be big enough for the front legs of each piece to rest on? Like an 8x10....See MoreSunroom Decor
Comments (4)Your room is really beautiful. I love the carpet in the picture. Is that one you're considering or will that stay as a second carpet? This is the only room I've ever seen where even the cat tree fits in and looks gorgeous. I like all the pillows except the one on the right which seems a bit strong, although it may look great on one of the chairs. I think the wall color is pretty and may be a softer transition than white would be with the dark blue. As for rugs, either polypropylene or wool can be cleaned with water and a little bit of dishwashing liquid or other mild detergent. I think that in the rug a little bit of red would be good with the blue and tan colors to warm them and give them some life. You have such great taste that you're sure to find the right pillows and accessories....See MoreUnique Sunroom Help
Comments (31)Makes sense @cali. I was thinking through that after reading up on circular rug placement and finding that it should be centered. I don’t think I’d want a table in the middle of the space either because it’d be in the way of the walkway. I’ll do some taping! In the meantime, I moved the chairs closer together and it feels better....See MoreRelated Professionals
