Re-Introduction

Yesterday I was doing laundry and stopped to glance at the label on my 3-year-old's quilt. It was from my friends at this Quilting Forum and quilted by Linda. It's been three years and my son still sleeps with this special gift every day. I've been away from quilting for some time now, but have spent the holidays pulling out my stash and getting inspired again. I even volunteered to make a handprint quilt for my 3-year-old's school fundraiser. He's so excited!

So, be prepared . . . I'm back and will be asking LOTS of questions!

Janet..thanks for sharing your gardens. I hope you can take some of your beautiful iris, hostas, columbines, etc. with you on your move. Yes, junk "evolves"...thank goodness! It will be a new challenge for you all...starting over! And your creations will be wonderful! I live near New Hartford where so many people lost everything with the tornado and then the floods this summer... 240 homes out of 270...many that NEVER flooded before. We are in the country so personal property not affected by the floods. We are helping "re-build" our town again. School will be opening on schedule Aug. 18th. So many volunteers still coming in! AWESOME! I've rattled on...but I am so glad you shared with this post...a story of more "survivors!" Thanks again for sharing. Jeanne S.

I had to do a little googling to find out, but I have D. spectabilis 'Alba'. I didn't realize formosa came in white. I love the perfect little hearts! I have both the red and white together.

New place, clean slate...(Re)introduction

Well, my clean slate is interesting... 1.5 acre lot, house facing due south. The southwest corner where the house is located is completely tree covered/shaded (something I've never had before) and the rest is completely open. My long term plan involves no-lawn/shade beds around the house and large perennial/native or adapted beds in the open areas. I see years of work ahead but I am ready to start. My goal is to have 25% or less dedicated to lawn as I don't believe in (or have the budget for) maintaining a "golf course" lawn. My ideas may be bigger than my wallet so I will be turning to you good folks for ideas on how to accomplish my vision in phases on a tight budget. This should be fun.

Gail, Nice to meet you. Welcome back, although I don't think I was playing here when you were. They sure are right when they refer to themselves as Enablers-R-Us. Hi Fran! Yes, I did the jar quilt swap. I'm embarrassed to say that I just pulled my jars out last night! We've moved since then and I wanted to wait until I had a more permanent place to put the finished product!

Hi Linda! YES!! It was you. The quilt is still beautiful. In fact, I have a finished quilt top that I just pulled out and I was thinking of asking if I could send it to you to quilt so that I don't destroy it!

Nice to see you back, Stephanie. I, too, have a block in your quilt. I think I saw a posting from you on the Sewing forum and thought how nice it was to see you were still around. I don't spend a lot of time on the computer, but do check in here from time to time.
