Tile to carpet transition?

I had a tile guy do the master bath in a house we just bought - it was in carpet so he cut the carpet off at the door center and tiled up to it.
Now I'm left with a jagged carpet edge on two doorways wondering what the heck do I use to transition with? I've seen some cases where they roll the carpet over and get it really tight to the tile so there is no extra transitional piece - but it's cut to the edge with no extra so that's not an option.

Any suggestions on what to use would be appreciated - and this would be DIY so something simple hopefully - glue down or ????

Geez, what was he thinking! I don't think that type of carpet will tuck and hide the seam as well as a shag carpeting so you'll probably have to use either a wood or metal transition piece.
I've used a wood piece to transition wood to tile (see link) and had my local Benjamin Moore paint store color match a stain. They only charged me for the small amount of stain that they mixed to make the match! It was a perfect match and after staining and sealing one never notices the transition!

Do I see a pocket door in your photo? If so, make sure the depth of your transition piece still allows the pocket door to close.

Interesting though I would have to glue down - the link photo of the part from Home Depot shows anchors and screws, and this is on slab foundation...

We installed a heating system, self leveling compound and 18x18 inch travertine tiles and it all came up to 2", consequentially I have a rather large tile to carpet height transition problem. Has anybody used carpet shims before? It looks as if there are two brands.. CarpetShims and PowerholdTransitions. The carpet is already laid, so I would prefer to get something that I can stick in there without having to take it out (one door is into a walk-in closet and the closets are already installed) Is there anything else anybody can recommend? " handymac, I'd appreciate it if you'd clarify your statements a bit more. Why do you think that "Using even a custom transition strip when the hard surface is higher than the carpet usually does not work well"? Do you mean that it becomes a trip hazard? Or is there another reason? Transition strips have to be stable---both sides have to have support. In the example above, the strip is supported by the hard surface, but will nor be supported by the carpet/pad sufficiently unless the strip compresses the carpet/pad quite a lot. That usually results in a squashed carpet look most folks do not like. By "So, you might wind up adding 3/4" to the carpeted areas just to get the heated floors in the baths" are you suggesting that we add underlayment before we re-carpet? If so, how do we address the differences at the stairs? Do we gradually raise the height of the top steps? I'd think we'd need to do something or else the top step will be 3/4" higher than all the others and that would be noticeable." Adding 3/4" under the carpet is what I meant. As for the stairs, I have seen a landing area(at the original floor height) done at the top of the stairs, maybe 4' by 3' and a transition strip used between the carpet and the landing area. Maybe solid surface flooring or vinyl tile. That minimizes the height difference at the top step and a 3/4" visual difference does not create a trip hazard.

Is your carpet and tile a gray color? I ask because I see your only color choices are aluminum or brass. Also, will there be a height difference between carpet and tile? If I had to choose I'd go with the Schiene since the Reno has a raised/angled edge. We had a similar problem where travertine met hardwood so we had a transition piece milled locally (couldn't find the correct ht premade) and then had BM custom match a stain to the travertine. Just throwing out other options! I would talk first to your carpet installer and ask how well they can finish the edges. All of the floor samples look almost identical in color, except the last one is a bit darker. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them! #3 is probably my favorite because it has less grain.

So you'll know next time not to refer this guy and also to have them leave or fold under 2 or 3".
They make a nail down bullnose carpet trim.

And, you can nail into concrete with special nails.

Never assume a flooring installer will finish the transition to another kind of flooring. A tile-setter does not carry carpeting tools. Flooring installers don't trim the bottom of doors. These disclaimers are usually stated in fine print at the bottom of the proposal.

I would have completed the transition, and trimmed the bottom of the door. I make sure that part is clearly stated in the proposal, and how much I'm charging for that. Usually 50 to $100 per transition, depending on how heavy the door is to take off.

For this, I would use the thin metal floor reducer. Here are the anchors best suited for this application:

Actually, looking again at your picture, you have room to put in a small tile transition piece, think border, against what you have there so that the remaining carpet can be folded and attached to the flooring under the pocket door. (this way, when the door is closed, you'll see carpet on one side of door only, and tile on the other side of door only, rather than a little bit of carpet on the tile side of the door.)

See if you can figure out how to attach z-bar to the concrete (youtube it) and put that in place under where the pocket door will slide.
