Low Ceiling Height in basement remodel

I have low ceiling joists in my basement remodel - they are also a bit unlevel so I cannot drywall directly to the joists.
So I have attached 1x strips to joists and plan on screwing the drywall to these strips.
My question is the doors. I have rough framed in my doorway, however, do I want to do ceilings first? Install the pre hung doors first?
I have only 3/4 inch space strip to rough in door opening (before sheetrock). I am using half inch drywall.
I also only have 82 inches of height in the roughed in opening.
Thoughts? I know I really won't have space for top door trim - or I will also have to shave doors. Trying to avoid that.

Comments (40)The basement ceiling height of the house we lived in when our kids were teenagers wasn't much higher than yours. My husband sprayed the underside of the main level floor matte black, covering all pipes and ducts. If you DIY, be sure to use a good respirator mask. Our son was the same height as your husband (now slightly taller) and my husband was just a tad shorter. Neither one was bothered by feeling as if they were about to bump their heads. We had no issues with dust. As for noise in the basement, I think it was only noticeable when someone overhead wore high heels. I didn't find that the sound of video games or movies in the basement carried upstairs any more than in a later house with a drywall ceiling. Comments (2)since this is a powder room and not a main bathroom, and you are restricted by ceiling height. I would do recessed, or i would wall/mirror mount two sconces on either side of the sink. a single pendant light could be ok but would only light one side of the face....See MoreLighting help for our low ceiling basement
Comments (20)I would start by retrofitting the existing square can with an LED kit that screws into the exsisting socket and that will help those produce more light than they are now. something like this: https://elcolighting.com/products/8-square-led-retrofit-insert In front of the fireplace, you could keep the existing track there and just get 2 smaller track heads for the one by the tv. its just in a very redundant spot. After you brighten up the existing cans see if you actually need that light. if you do I would put in a 4 inch recessed light with a square trim. or a single spotlight aimed at the doorways....See MoreLow Height + Small Basement Bath
