I was looking for a surround for the gas fireplace, and stumbled into it at a granite shop--was amazed how light goes through it. Spent about a year doing research before doing kitchen,(Looking for "something different"),and I came across a curved cooktop and I thought, "That's it---Curves it shall be"---although the curved cooktop turned out to be a horror story, (wasn't induction and everything burned and stuck to it and due to the location of it's touch controls they became disabled even thou we cleaned it and used it infrequently. I will post a picture of the curved cooktop. Danielle00 Both ovens The speed oven as well as the convection oven are fantastic and flawless.The shelves are on ball bearings and they slide wayyyyyyy out in the Convection oven and it has a gorgeous cobalt interior. The speed oven is amazing, it does everything, I even do toast in it. It has a button called recipes. If You push that, it tells a guy, even like me, how to do a competent "Emeril Legasse Imitation" LOL (Sorry Emeril, I probably mispelt. Have used the 2 ovens for about 2 and a half years now. The Induction cooktop just got put it this week, it replaced the broken (saab saab) curved cooktop Luv the induction so far!!!!! boxerpups Yep I am very fond of European Things, the people, The music and some of their Style themes.As you probably know Electrolux is a Swedish company. Casey, the KD was me. Actually the curve works out extremely well for access to the cooktop You dont have a cabinet or whatever below that you normally might bang your knees, belt buckle (or what have ya into)The cabinet is kinda recessed out of the way, because of the curve. The curved cabinet works well for both the old curved one and the new induction one,The new Induction cooktop actually sits on a new granite platform I designed for it---I had to cover that 36 inch half circle from the old cooktop. Wife and I like the elevated look it gives to the new cooktop, kind of "Sets it off", we thinks. Again Thanks all for the inputs and comments. cpartist Thanks for your input. Everything is already framed and I like the layout. I bought this house knowing I would renovate and had several goals - all met with this design. 1. I saw at least 50 plans drawn with the kitchen in different locations including suggested by architects and designers on here. (not exaggerating about the number of plans - there were 3 different architects at different points and you can see all the suggestions offered on Houzz). The current location is the best compromise of location and cost without extending the house. It's 7 feet to the DR from the kitchen - I can live with that. 2. I am a bather so I want a tub in the master. There will be a linen closet in the master as well as several recessed cabinets not shown on the plan. I prefer pedestal sink to vanities as I don't like the sprawl of stuff on top of the vanity. There is not enough room in the guest bath for a bathtub - it can only be 5 feet deep without affecting the entrance to the DR. We can't change the location of the guest bath either as all the windows are already here. It could have been a little bigger if I was willing to put the laundry inside of it but I didn't want to do that. I went around and around on the guest bath with tub. In the end I decided against it for several reasons - 1. Many of my frequent guests have mobility issues that make climbing over a tub to take a shower difficult. 2. I don't have any guests who would take a bath when visiting so it seemed like another compromise I would pay for to make future buyers happy. I have a second home with a bathtub/shower combo and nobody has ever used the tub. Who knows what future buyers will want when I go to sell - if I were looking again, I would want a tub in master not guest. Maybe a family would want something different. Conventional wisdom would say people want at least 2 baths; however, I live in a city neighborhood with all old homes and most of the homes in my neighborhood, including the 4+ bedrooms, have 1.5 baths and they sell quickly. My master bath was and is on the larger side for the neighborhood. My house now has 2 baths on the main floor plus a 3/4 bath in the basement that we updated to use during the renovation. My house also has a full height second floor walk up attic so there is room to grow without adding on. I didn't expand up as I didn't want a two story home. 3. One of the goals of the project was to eliminate the narrow hall that couldn't accommodate moving furniture, a person with a walker, and the outswing doors to the basement and attic. I don't think the hallway can be narrower without looking weird or blocking doors. The new closet in the master is the second master closet - the other one is large. This is looking at the master from the new guest bath - if we were to extend the wall with the closet, I think it would crowd the bedroom doors.

I dislike fixed seating around a fire pit since the smoke will always go exactly there .Remove the wall and get some nice chairs that can be moved easily. Adirondaks are often used I find them hard to move and for older people hard to get out of but the are many style you can use. BTW the placement of that wall is too far from the firepit IMO another reason to not do it. I like asolid ground around a pit so chairs sit a bit more evenly but if you tamp down the gravel it works too. If you insist on this it needs to be like a chir seat so 6 “ is not it. I assume this is going to be a real fire pit not propane or gas so becareful using any fabric for the chairs, sparks fly. There is nothing nice about sitting on stone no matter how pretty is is . We have stumps we move around when there are lots of people more comfotable that stone.

I would not even bother painting. We lived in a basement bedroom while we renovated a whole house it became kind of like camping after a while we gutted and redis the whole house and did all the work except for the rewiring and plumbing. The house was a 1905 and needed good bones before anything else . My suggestion is right now do not do anything for the foyer since that will be ahuge traffic area when you start this job. I also suggest you have all the bones checked and get a good interior designer ( I am one BTW) since you will find this a huge undertaking and you need a PLAN. My first question would be how soon are you planning to start?
