Hmmm, could it be cipollino marble? i.e. the most spectacular marble ever (in my humble opinion anyway?)

The cipollino that I've seen in large slabs is white with blue, brown and grey linear striations - I've never seen it in a brick backsplash, but I'm sure it exists. What magazine did you see it in?

I've pasted a link to an old thread I posted about Cipollino marble, have a look at the pictures and see if you think it could be the same marble. Scroll down to the last two pictures in my first post. I've also seen Cipollino that doesn't have any blue.

Sochi, that could be it, although, the colors look darker in the pictures. Here they are.

I have a Cipollino backsplash. My tiles are a little longer than in your photos, each one measures 3/4" x 3 3/4". (They come on sheets just shy of a square foot.)

I love the Cipollino, it looks terrific with my Carrera counters!

I bought it from a Canadian company that has a showroom and warehouse in Michigan. It was in stock, around $15/sheet. I've included a link to the website, but the site doesn't have any pics of my tile.

It definitely is cipollino. albemi, I'm in Ottawa and I saw my Cipollino slabs at Ciot in both Toronto and Montreal, I'm sure they both have the tiles as well. I also saw a showroom here in Ottawa recently with that browner cipollino as a backsplash, beautiful. Definitely a Ciot product.

Thanks so much! Here's where I am with all this.

I'm on the east coast. Apparently, there's a distributer in Halifax but can't find a contact number for there or Ottawa on the website. I called Toronto. She said they had a longer rectangular tile much whiter than the one in the picture. I would almost guess the photo made it look darker until you said the one you saw had the same appearance. I'm thinking I should call the store in Ottawa and see exactly what's on their wall. Was it recently? Do you know the name of the showroom?

The showroom in Ottawa is called Astro, I included a link to their website. I would think that they get all their stone from Ciot, but I could be wrong. Now I'm second guessing if it was Cipollino tile or slabs I saw at Astro. No harm in calling or emailing though.

The tile might also come from Olympia tile, another one of the big tile stores in Toronto. http://www.olympiatile.com/index.html They have a store in Dartmouth.

The designer of the kitchen in your magazine (was is it Style at Home or Canadian House and Home?) is Cameron MacNeil, he works for Canadian House and Home magazine I think. I'm surprised that they didn't identify the backsplash and where it comes from in the magazine. He is based in Toronto, which is why I'm guessing he got the tile from Ciot or Olympia. Sochi, Are you there?

I'm not sure what to do. I can get the tile shipped to me but apparently there is huge variation in the colors. It can be quite light or mostly grey ...it's like a surprise purchase. I am really attracted by the warmth of this sample. Would you take a chance? Any other suggestions for a similar look? I want something with a bit blingy...glass would be an option

I'm not surprised about the colour variation, given that I've seen it with lots of blue, no blue, some green, some cream and brown. In all colours I've seen it is beautiful, but I'm with you that buying sight unseen is a little daunting. I would get a sample if you can and see what you think.

There are lots of glass and marble backsplash materials out there and I'm no expert. That said, there are lots of experts out there, you might want to start a new thread asking for opinions, show them what you like, some of the members might know of more alternatives. Have you checked out the Walker Zanger website, Ann Sacks? If you are near Dartmouth at all I would check out the Olympia tile store, they have a good selection.

I found the mini brick in Cipollino you're looking for at Ciot. It's called, Cipollino Split Face. The colour of this beautiful stone vary from white, light grey and cream. I'm desperately looking to purchase this as Ciot no longer carries it. Does anyone know where I can purchase this stone as it's the only match for my quartz counters. Thanks!

I ordered the 1x3 brick backsplash yesterday from Ciot in Montreal. It was in stock and already on the way! That finally made my decision as I'm still waiting to see the floor tile I ordered 3 months ago. I can take a few pictures when it gets here.

oneof5 - was it Ciot that called you and told you they don't carry it anymore? If you called Toronto you should try Mtl as well. There is another Ciot in Detroit.

sabjimata - tell me about it, it was brutal. While I love my quartzite/luce di luna, I will always wish I had the Cipollino, ldl was definitely a second choice. The Cipollino slabs blew me away.
