How about making a cute pin cushion and including a pack of pins and machine needles. Or some cute quilt related stationary and note pads.

We have our gift exchange tonight!! I went to my LQS and pick up a box of really cute notecards and a matching checkbook cover with a 2 yr date planner inside!! Hope they like it!!

I was going to suggest something non-LQS: a lovely christmas ornament. Of course, you can always get a mug with a quilty theme on it. Fill it with packets of hot chocolate mix, or how about an assortment of little "tools" that every quilter says she wants some day, but just never gets around to getting for herself: inexpensive retractable measuring tape (great to carry in a purse); pigma pen; rubber thimble; pincushion; new pins (maybe something with fancy heads); marking tool(s); rotary cutter blades (if you know what size it helps); bag balm (for sore fingers); small rotary rulers (for those tiny pieces that need to be cut); tiny, sharp snips (everyone can use those!).....

Look at the notions wall for ideas and think outside the box! Good luck.

There is a small stand who sets up at our local mall each Christmas and they sell all sorts of Calendars. There are usually three or four Quilt-themed wall calendars in the mix with beautiful blocks on each page. My heart sings when I see them and what a wonderful and useful item to set in a sewing room, or even a kitchen in a quilter's house. They run a little more than ten dollars, but when you factor in the fuel it takes looking for a gift in a specific range, you're usually better off going a little more if you find 'just the right thing' than half a tank of gas. That works for me, lol.

For my b'day last month, I asked for a LARGE pin cusion. I was getting so frustrated with the tiny cushions one usually finds in places like fabric stores. We quilters use a lot of pins at any given time and I used to have to have two boxes of pins and pin cushion handy on my ironing board and near my sewing machine. My dd found a big, fat pincushion and it's just what I wanted. Ditto on the retractable tape measure. I carry one in my purse my husband gave me and it comes in handy often. Also things like a bias cone for making your own bias. All three are prolly less than ten dollars apiece.

I always either break or lose seam rippers (the kids help with that, too!).
I think a small basket- from the $1 store, or even one you've already got- filled with some little things like that would be nice. Line it with a pretty FQ, stash in some things like Odessa mentioned, and you've got a great little gift basket. Half the fun would be discovering what all is inside!

Thank you for all the great ideas. I may make up a basket lined with a FQ and put items for stitching bindings in it. I have lots of the clips (more than I need) and could add a package of needles and a needle holder. I will check out the notions wall and see what else I can find.
