After seeing your name, I was cringing to see all this great glassware about. Fabulous collection. I love that thistle pattern!

Cat, a girl after my own heart! Don't you just love playing around with it, trying to arrange them in just the right spot until you realise it's not quite right and you begin again? lol.

I ran out of room one day for my cranberry/cut glass collection so I put some in the kitchen windowsill.

Below is a picture but not a good one. I was taking a picture of the stained glass.

Take a peek at the vintage kitty cat tepot on the left. My late MIL had it and it was given to me, along with more depression glass.

Here's a basket I inherited from my MIL also. It's a massive piece and very heavy. It looks smaller in this picture.

I'd love to play but all my goodies are still packed from when we moved in almost 5 years ago. I can't wait until the work is done and I can take them out again. I miss my "stuff"....

fori - I know! It's always an extra challenge decorating with cats in the house. I frequently find a "perfect" spot for something and then immediately realize that it might get knocked over by a cat. And if it's not a worry about getting broken, then I have to worry about it getting thrown up on. LOL

And I was stunned when I picked up one of those tea cups and saw the pattern. I hurried and grabbed every single piece before someone else did. Amazingly, they're all in perfect condition. There is so much on the shelves that is cracked/chipped/broken and these pieces are soooo thin.

colorwheel - Thanks for the compliment. :-) I'm torn on the corner shelf, but it works for how I'm using it. Unfortunately, I don't have a SA nearby, so we won't be competing. :-) I hope you'll share some of your finds. I truly love seeing what other people pick up for a great price.

oakleyok - I know what you mean! I fiddled around with the creamer/sugar display for ages before I said, "Ah, good enough!" and gave up. :-D

I just LOVE your kitchen photo! I swear, I looked at that photo for ages because it made me so happy and cozy feeling. :-) Love the teapot (of course, hee hee!) and the cranberry glass vase just takes my breath away. I would love to find a piece of cut glass in any of those rich colors (cranberry, cobalt, green), truly beautiful!

That basket is very pretty, can you tell me anything about it? I don't recognize the type of glass, but the picture makes it look like some kind of iridescent pink depression glass. It's gorgeous, though.

And I'd still like to see your collection of glass displayed by color - whenever you get a chance to take a picture. :-)

Cat, because other makers of this style of basket has close to the same thing, it took me weeks to figure out...if I'm right, that it's an L.E. Smith piece. Fenton and Fostoria also sell pink baskets.

I read that this is a piece of Carnival glass and the decoration of glass are fealthers.

Check out Ebay for a lot of inexpensive cranberry glass.

I'll try to take pictures this weekend. I wish there were more posters here who collected depression glass. I could look at pictures all day!

Ok, so I wasn't seeing things when I picked up some iridescence! :-) It didn't look like a Fenton piece to me (I also adore Fenton glass, which is why I included a photo of my lamp in this thread. I think I gasped when I saw it across the store and practically dove for it, lol).

I'm only semi-familiar with Fostoria since what turns up in Goodwill is mostly the American pattern - and most of THAT is actually Indiana's (?) Whitehall pattern. (After a few mistakes, I got pretty good at telling them apart, lol.)

I browse through ebay from time to time, just to see what's out there. Even when I find things I like, the shipping (and sometimes just the bid price) puts me off. I think the thrill of the hunt is just as much a part of it for me as the actual collecting and surrounding myself with pieces I love.

I had to look up L.E. Smith because the name rang a bell but I couldn't place why. It's because I have a blue moon & stars compote holding garlic on my kitchen counter. :-)

I could look at pictures all day, too! After I posted, I worried that my initial post would seem show off-y and that was totally not my intention. I just love to see how people display things and what "sings" to them.

The funny thing about that harp cake plate in the first photo: My parents are antique collectors and part-time dealers. I was visiting and saw that cake plate; I was immediately drawn to it. I said, "Hey, if you find that it isn't worth anything, can I have it?" So, next time they visited, they brought it to me. I happened to notice a harp on the base and grabbed my depression glass book (I knew there was a harp patter but I only knew of the crystal with gold trim). Lo and behold, there was an ice blue cake plate shown.

I called my parents the next day to gloat, mainly because I figured out what it was. I got to keep it on the condition that I didn't sell it. LOL

I adore Depression glass! Actually, many things Depression-era related. The textiles, the kitchenware, etc. A lot of my china and dinnerware is from the Depression.

But I LOVE that lamp! That's made by Fenton?! Is it marked? I love old, interesting lamps, and that one is fabulous!

franksmom - I, too, love vintage housewares. I wish I got into thrifting and yard sales years ago.

I hope you'll post some of your depression pieces (dinnerware, textiles, anything) as I'd love to see them. If that's not convenient, I'd love to read about some of the pieces you have. :-)

No, unfortunately, the lamp isn't marked. But luckily I've seen enough of my parents' coin dot Fenton pieces to recognize it. (I never was interested in their stuff when I lived at home, but I guess I "absorbed" some of it by recognition. LOL)

I've searched online for Fenton lamps and mostly see the really swanky-looking ones with the glass shades. Once, I did run across a Fenton lamp that had a regular fabric shade so it appears they did make them that way. But, I haven't found one that looks similar to mine. The one I saw online was much smaller; this thing is enormous.

I did send a photo to my parents when I bought it and they think it's Fenton; however, they haven't seen it in person yet.

I also need to find out the best way to restore it. I think some dork painted the base at some point. LOL

I have recently acquired a very large collection of pink depression glass from my sister who has asked me to try to sell it for her. Unfortunately, knowing nothing about the glass, I have no idea how to go about this.

I have been doing some research and I stumbled onto this page. I decided to become a member in the hopes that someone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have over 30 boxes packed full of different manufacturers and patterns. I am in the process of taking pictures of each boxes contents and would like to not sell it on ebay. I have nothing against ebay but am concerned that if I list a piece incorrectly it would hurt my own rating or I may not get my sister the money she may have been able to make.

I also realize that selling the glass at a discount is probably the best way to do this but am in need of a honest and reliable service or source that can get her the best deal.

I do apologize if this is not the correct place to post this but am novice and would appreciate any help!

CatMagnet - first of all, I love your screenname and wish I'd thought of it first! ;-) We have two more semi-feral felines that have recently adopted us and come around daily for food. (I realize I'm a "magnet" precisely because I continue to put the food out, but when these little stray sweeties show up and look at me pleadingly, I can't not do it.) Anyway - just wanted to say that you have a fabulous collection and have inspired me to start looking for a few pieces myself! I remember that my ex-inlaws had quite a few pieces in the thistle pattern - they were always finding lots of it at auction - and I thought then that it was just gorgeous. Still do!

Oakley, your kitchen window is so cute! Is that a kitty cookie jar? Love that basket too. It's yummy!

sverdeva - I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but it might be worth you contacting local antique dealers. You can also get yourself a good comprehensive depression glass pattern book and look up the pieces.

paulines - Thanks for the link, I hadn't run across that before! It's the most similar lamp I've seen, but the one in your link looks smaller than mine. It also seems as if it would have a glass chimney or shade; mine has a harp. But thanks, at least I know they were made in that shape!

auntjen - Thanks so much for the compliments! It really means a lot because I have long admired the photos of your home and always love reading your posts. :-) And, as much as I adored your old color scheme, I just LOVE the changes you've made!

We have 5, all homeless before we took them in. Well, technically 2 weren't homeless since they were part of a litter of 5 from a feral cat that adopted my parents. The mother cat has made herself at home at my parents' with 3 of her babies and has no interest in going back outside. And I know what you mean about being unable to resist those pleading eyes. :-)

The thistle pattern is lovely and the cups/saucers are SUCH a beautiful green. They're so delicate and I know that something will get broken, either by me or the cats. (I'm a klutz, lol.)
