Pre-emergent, anyone?
Comments (13)I've quit even trying to use RoundUp in our enormous driveway, because it's a joke. I'd have to do it every 6 weeks to keep the weeds under control that come up through the seams in the cement. I got a super weed killer from Atwoods that seem to be marginally better for that area, but I wouldn't want to use it anyplace else. I'm just not sure whether it has any soil activity or not, and I would not want to find out the hard way. I always try to read the labels and check for soil activity or residual effect before I use a new product. Lily Miller has some good brush killers, but I don't know if they're available in OK. Maybe the day will eventually come when I've been able to get the worst of the crabgrass roots out of the garden, but I'm afraid it will be a very long time from now. Some of the vegetation on an edge of the veggie garden was so thick and overgrown that we didn't own a weed-eater strong enough to cope with it when we began clearing it this spring. Not even the big gas high-wheel one. It was a tangle of honeysuckle, wild rose, Virginia creeper, poison oak and a whole lot of other vigorous stuff. It all had to be sprayed and then chopped out by hand. Unfortunately, it has all come right back and seems to be thriving. I suppose that next year we could repeat the process and then I could put down industrial weedcloth and cover it up with mulch, but I don't know that it would be really effective. I've tried using our paper feed sacks, covered with mulch, but the weeds end up growing right through them. I've really never seen anything quite like it. If I could bottle up that vigor and transfer it over to more fragile commercial landscape plants, I'd have it made. Pat...See MoreMy pity party's over. Does anyone recognize this fabric?
Comments (8)Lisa_a- that is a nice fabric, but I don't think it's the one I'm looking for since it has no yellow. The reason I'm so hung up on this particular fabric is because it has the aqua, citron, yellow, khaki, and cream that I love. I was really depending on this fabric to tie my accessories together. I guess I'm just going to have to try to find something different with the same colors in it. I love Amy Butler fabrics but I haven't seen them in person and I'm not 100% sure the ones I like contain the right colors. However, Waverly does have a fabric similar to the other fabric (it comes in mineral and mist I think). Instead of brown the lattice pattern is cream. That could work and it's on sale right now. Thanks again and I'm open to substitute fabrics with the same color scheme that is not necessarily a stripe. I love kitchens with relatively neutral choices and bold fabrics....See MoreAnyone have a solarium from Four seasons sunrooms?
Comments (21)Fraker -- Hope you're still on this site from time to time. We're in the process of possibly buying a home in N NV that has an installed Four Seasons sunroom -- a big one -- about 1300 sq ft. It's 10 yrs old and the local installer folded 7 years ago. The structure appears to be in good shape but I'm no expert & the seller (owner) notes they had to make three "cosmetic" repairs where there were leaks (where the sunroom structure attaches to the house) last month prior to listing it for sale. I cannot see where they leaked or where the repairs were made. It appears professionally done. Does your unit look anything like this one? You can see the owners installed 2 extra heaters and good quality sunshades on all the horizontal windows. Thanks! MG...See MoreCan Anyone Recommend Pre-made Concentrated Compost Tea
Comments (14)I take alfalfa pellets the kind u feed to rabbits, and throw a handful in my potted plants every once in awhile. When I water the plants they disintegrate and mix into the soil. Its super easy lol. To tell the truth, I also just take a 1/4 tsp of miracle grow and dump it on potted plants if the are in 3 gal size or larger or in the ground. Then i just water it. I've never burned anything this way. **You must make sure they are watered well at least a half an hr BEFORE doing this. Then you are going to water it into the plants again after applying. Its probably wasteful but lugging around 5 gal buckets got old. You can also get the kind that hooks up to your hose. I'm thinking you might be able to make a really strong compost tea and strain it through some cheese cloth (maybe make a cheese cloth bag) then put it into the miracle grow container that screws onto the hose. I will have to try it and see. Then one could foliar feed that way without lugging a bucket around. Eta..The Alaska Fish Fertilizer works good to foliar feed. You are supposed to mix it in a bucket but you could probably make it more concentrated strain it then apply w a hose sprayer. I used to use it w my regular sprayer but it does clog it up if you dont strain it and its a pain to take the nozzle apart to rinse etc. I add a little coco wet to help it 'stick' to the foliage but you dont really need it. My plants went crazy with that stuff....See Morechisue
