What a beautiful room.I wouldn't change a whole lot. In fact one thing, the piano, that I changed I think you already have it turned that way.

I moved three of the four chairs. the two wood ones closer to the library corner so one can just grab and book and sit down and also have a better view of the piano player since I moved the large chair next to it's partner and sunggled them up to the sofa which is now directly in front of the fireplace.
We have a similar problem in our Gentlemen's parlor with two french doors. Only ours on each side wall, one leading to our screened in porch and the other to the back deck. Luckily we have yet another set of screen doors that lead to the back deck from the sunroom so I often arrange the furniture as if that french door is a large window. Though we could still use it if we had to.

I love your room. The changes I would suggest from the first photo is to move the 2 brown chairs to the bookcase area....making their own coversation area over there. I didnt care for them behind the cream club chair. My other suggestion is to add some tables. A small table between the two brown chairs by the bookcases. Also, add an end table and a skirted table (or 2 end tables) on either side of the sofa...maybe even a sofa table behind the sofa. I think that would help anchor the furniture better. Since I dont see a tv you could place the white club chairs closer to the fireplace and angle them in towards the couch. They are a little bulky so that suggestion might not work. I think the original placement of the piano works well but depending on what angle of the piano you like looking at, you could rotate the piano so when you play the piano, your back is to the plant and the piano's curves angle to the seating area. Are you opposed to adding some soft color to the walls. Just a touch of color would cozy up the room.

You have a wonderful space to work with. I agree with suggestion to add a few tables and a sofa table behind the sofa. I would like to see the library built-in reconfigured to only run along the wall shared by the kitchen--so that essentially your kitchen wall has built-ins running all along that wall with the exception of the entryway--you may need to add a few pieces for it, but will be well worth it. As is, the built-ins look choppy.

Overall I like your arrangement of furniture with the addition of a few tables end tables and a sofa table behind the sofa; however if you want to form multiple seating areas, I'd divide into two groups to either side of the fireplace. My only concern with that is that you not block the aisles to your french doors. I'd make a clean pathway to the pool with some type of water resistant runner. We were just at a pool party yesterday and even though the kid's dried off you could just see all the wet footprints.

How do you entertain? Is it a lot of indoor and outdoor with swimming? Do you serve drinks from the bar? If there is a lot of traffic to you bar, perhaps you could move closer to one of the french doors. Does anyone actually use the bar chairs or are guests more included to stand in groups and chat at the bar?

What if you moved the piano to the corner with the bookshelves? -- and so create a library/musical corner. Add lights to the tops of the bookshelves for additional ambient lighting options.

THEN you re-orient the seating area towards the bar (and the views ) by moving the two comfy chairs (adding a table and lamp between them) on the left-hand side (where the piano was located) Leave the sofa where it now sits -- and move in the two planter's chairs to the right-hand side.

Do add lamps and lighting options around the room. Standing lamps -- perhaps an accent lamp or two on the bar .......

Add tropical vintage-style travel posters to the room ..... or perhaps vintage-style maps and globes?

Thank you, everyone. Your thoughts and ideas are very helpful, some as reinforcement and some provoking new ideas. Your encouragement though is invaluable! Thank you for all your kind comments.

I should have explained that this room is in a very raw state after the remodel of the house. The walls will certainly not be left white, they have only a coat of primer at the moment. Smaller pieces such as tables will be added as will several lamps, in addition to the existing 17 wall or overhead lights (Jan - including rope lights above all the built ins!). Window treatments will be added for softness and layering and more color will be introduced in pillows, artwork etc.

valinsv - depending upon the time of year and weather we entertain indoors or mostly outdoors around the pool. We do serve drinks from the bar, it also supplies all the sodas, water and ice so no-one needs to go to the kitchen. The bar stools were actually requested by one of our guests and are used quite a lot (often by the guys who congregate there for a cold beer and a man chat!)

I would still appreciate any further ideas before I start this project if anyone can spare the time.
