Need some advice. Single or double bowl for kitchen sink?
Comments (40)Something seems to be missing in EVERY thread about Single vs. Double Bowl sinks. Large single sinks have the space for large items but lack the versatility of having two bowls. Double bowl sinks, regardless of the ratio of the bowls, just aren't big enough for a lot of items. But wait, you can have the best of both worlds IF you have a little space. When planning our kitchen remodel/expansion my wife and I got into the age old one bowl vs. two bowl argument. Our old kitchen had a Kohler Executive Chef double bowl sink. The larger bowl was not big enough for big stuff so I wanted a single bowl - she wanted a double bowl, so here is what I did. I had our KD order a 54" wide, quad door sink base (Medallion) and I put a Blanco Diamond Super Single Bowl (33" X 22") Silgranit Sink (440194) on the left and a Blanco Precis Medium Bowl (13" X 18") Silgranit Sink (440144) on the right. I separated the two sinks by 5" to allow sufficient strength for the granite "Bridge" between the two sinks. I also had 5 groves cut into the "Granite Bridges to allow water to flow between the sinks in the unlikely event someone left the water running in one of the sinks. While it does take some space and a little imagination to accommodate this arrangement I believe it is the best solution to the one vs. two bowl dilemma - we simply LOVE it. Just a comment about the Blanco Silgranit sinks - I cannot ever see us going back to a Stainless Steel or Cast Iron sink - Blanco Silgranit sinks are IMHO the beat sinks available today....See More30 or 32 inch single bowl stainless steel sink??
Comments (10)Try to do some imaginary dishwashing with a deeper front-to-back sink and see if the extra inch will bug you. (I think you'll find it just lovely to have extra room in the sink.) The deeper sinks bother my back because the faucet is too far back because I'm short BUT it's still worth it--I just have to get giant faucets. Once I figured that out my problems of oversized sinks were solved. Yes, I do go overboard on sink size, but I don't regret it. (And the Tapmaster foot controller makes it very comfy.) As far as whether or not you can fit a faucet, your counter (and backsplash) will affect what fits. Remember you add 1.5 to 2" of overhang on the front, so it's possible...good thing to keep in mind though and hopefully someone can guide you on that....See Moresingle basin stainless steel sink recommendations
Comments (9)I was going to buy a Kraus stainless steel sink until I switched over to a Blanco Silgranit sink. But if I were going to buy a stainless sink, I'd go with Kraus as has already been mentioned. The Kraus stainless sinks are the thicker 16-gauge, and the sinks come with sink grid and strainer for free. Many other sinks are the thinner 18-gauge. We like the thicker 16-gauge because it makes the sink less noisy and more solid-feeling. Although we decided against a stainless sink, we ended up buying a Kraus faucet, and really like it. What a lot of bang for the buck. I recommend buying Kraus products from expressdecor, cause our faucet arrived quickly and beautifully packed. Expressdecor had the best price cause they also usually offer a coupon for anywhere bet. 5% and 15% off (it's on the home page of the website). I have no affiliation with the company - I just liked purchasing from them. I wanted to add that you should tell your friend that often the "free" sinks that the installer throws in aren't that great. It could be a shape you don't like (perhaps your friend prefers a rectangular sink to the D-shaped sink that the installer has). And the gauge may be thin, rather than the thicker 16-gauge I mentioned. Or perhaps the free sink is not the right size. Find out what size is the sink cabinet, and let that size guide what the sink size should be, not what the contractor has available as a freebie. Comments (4)Rachiele makes custom stainless and copper sinks with right-rear drains. Pricey, but the 42" copper sink we bought from them is gorgeous. It's at the countertop place awaiting installation, and I can't wait to get that baby into use! No affiliation. Just a satisfied (so far) customer.
