For curiosity's sake...here's some other items I'll have to address: -Landscaping-the house was abandoned for 2 years and the entire yard (was) overgrown. I ran a mower over it but it needs a LOT of attention! Might shoot over to the Gardening forum for help there. First though I want to be able to live in it, then we'll worry about that! -Furnace and Central A/C unit-both shot-being replaced as we speak (the heating/cooling guy is there right now while I'm at work) -windows and doors-the windows are horribly insulated, and here I have a dilemma. Do I go with cheap, energy efficient white vinyl, and make sure I paint the trim to match, or spend three times as much on wood windows that are more suited to the period? I think I can get away with GOOD vinyl as long as I match the paint color of the trim well enough. While I will spend top dollar in some areas I would like to cut corners where I can. Exterior doors are rotting, I'd like to go with steel or fiberglass if I can make them look good with the decor. The photo below is the basic jist of what I would like the interior to look like. -bathrooms - Two full and two half baths, one is so bad it looks like something out of a bad horror flick, the other three are usable but just need freshened up. -exterior - needs a power wash and probably paint. That's a project I want to do before fall. -basement - dry, but dirty. Looks like it was flooded at some point. What a beautiful charmer! You must be having so much fun playing dress up with this gorgeous house! I think you made a solid choice with the black windows and they look great. I'm marinating on the how we can brighten up that amazing front porch...so stay tuned for more on that. I dont think painting the stone is completely off the table. I would obviously only do the exterior siding and leave foundational stone natural like it is. I think painting might brighten it up a bit and plus I love the uneven texture that comes out once its painted. On your two windows that pop out on front and side of house, if budget permits, a copper roof might be fun?

We are having our house painted next month. Here it is currently: I would eventually like to have the roof replaced (when necessary — not for many years) with cedar shakes, and some day I’d like to have copper gutters and a black and creme color scheme. I’d like to move in this direction, but not sure whether dark half-timbering would look odd with a brown roof, or if creme would be too light for the stone. I’d love feedback about either of these options: Second, can anyone suggest a nice bedroom ceiling light fixture with 2+ bulbs? I like schoolhouse lights, but they seem to use only one bulb, which I think may make the room too dark. The bedroom ceilings are only 7’6” high, and I am looking for something approximating an original 1930s fixture. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

IMO, the turret does’t make it ”Tudor”, though it is admittedly a unique feature of the house. I would paint the brick, chimney and turret. It will give you a fresh look all the way. Neighbors of mine painted their (brick) house Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee (OC-45); its a beautiful soft white. Easy to look at - not glaring optic white - and easy to work with/accent . It may not be the right tone to your stone window wells, or enough contrast to your white windows, but a place to start. You might consider coordinating colors with the stone window-well, so the tones don’t clash. That way, you will be able to find a compatible color with the right undertones no matter what direction you go. If you go to the ”whites”, consider the white of the exterior windows (and back door?); you’ll want enough contrast that looks intentional vs. hit-and-miss. A pop of color at the front door inside the turret could be fun! Since you will be painting the house trim and eaves, maybe paint them the white of the existing windows to tie things together. I would definitely paint the stucco foundation…. a deeper/“heavier”/weighted coordinating color on the color strip or color wheel. Again, it will be a fresh look and ”ground”/balance the color above on the siding/clapboard. If you’re unsure or uncomfortable in selecting colors, most interior designers offer (hourly?) color consultations without the commitment of engaging them for an entire project. Garage: Maybe an opportunity to paint the trim white (as the house trim and windows) [color #1], the garage sides and automatic door one of the house colors [color #2], and the gable the 3rd color, echoing all the fresh new colors of the house.
