Oh, darn......I thought you were going to ask about a good malbec or pinot noir. I don't know anything about sweet wines, but maybe you don't need a sweet wine. I just Googled sangria recipe and found this. It calls for a dry red wine, to which sweet stuff is added.

I can't help with a sweet red (or white) either. I'd go with alisande's recommendation to use a dry red.

Yes, don't use a sweet wine! You can add sugar to your sangria to taste. Sweet wine would make it yucky.

And go to a good liquor store and talk to the clerks for recommendations. If you're making sangria for a group, the Franzia box wines will be just fine.

I mix either burgundy or merlot, and I buy the jug kind. Mix in 7-Up about equal parts. Slice up an orange, lime and lemon, slightly squeeze the juice from them as you dump them into the pitcher. Stir and chill for a couple of hours before serving. Peaches taste good in sangria too. Or you could add a berry or two to each glass.

And don't you dare waste a good Malbec on Sangria! :-)

Even though the majority of my friends worship red wines, I simply couldn't understand the attraction until I discovered Malbec while in Buenos Aires in 2006. What a wonderful discovery that was. Have not willingly drank white wine ever since.

Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with a nice Sangria, just use a standard Merlot, Cab or as Sushipup suggests ... a box of red wine. Some are actually pretty good.

If you get the Franzia, get a varietal, and not the generic "red" and especially not the "Chillable Red".

I wish I knew something about wine. I went to Bevmo the other day and I was so lost. So I did what I usually did and picked based on how pretty the label was! Ended up with a red blend called "Red Velvet" by the Cupcake label. Also a chardonnay by the same people. I think because I was in there for prosecco to make cupcakes and I kept to the theme!

saw this and had to lol..havn't had sangria in 40 years...was preggers with our first(and didn't know it) and after one glass was in the bathroom! and in such a classy place, where it was the "star"...

i've actually seen wine called sangria, but i'd follow the recipe and make my own...

Chi83, BevMo has great staff who really know their wines. Just ask, and they'll help anytime. I think you got some good wines, but next time, just talk to the clerks who love to help.

I really liked the place! They had a good sale where you buy one and get the second for 5 cents. I plan on going back and stocking up at some point.

I think the wines I got will be okay. Both were the only ones left on the shelf at full price so I consider that a good sign. And only $9.99.

I had a fantastic sangria Wednesday...

Paisano wine
apricot brandy
triple sec
sweet vermouth
fruit

Mix and let blend in the fridge for several days.

Sadly I did not find out how much of each to use!

Isn't Moscato a white wine? I thought you were looking at reds. I have seen white Sangria, but it was made with a dry white...other ingredients sweetened it up. Have fun mixing and sipping!

Moscato is white. At least it was Wednesday night, when I shared a bottle with my writing group. Whatever.....it'll all taste good. :-)

I make wine as a hobby, anywhere from 15 to 20 gal. per year. Some years don't make any. Use it mostly as gifts, as me nor wife drink. I do a lot of experimenting with combining different fruit juices. Three years ago i mixed Muscadine, Grape and Apple juice together and made 15 gal. Everyone that tried it preferred it over Ripple and Thunderbird ten to one. I have close to a hundred or more bottles of wine stored in the basement, some at least thirty year old.
