This log cabin has over 1625 subunits, making 100 blocks and will be 75x107.

This is 4 blocks making a 15&1/2 with 1" sashing. At first I was pressing everything and then I just finger pressed after the first 4 logs. The finger pressing works just as well and makes it much faster.

It is a fairly easy pattern with not a lot of seams to match, but it is really easy to get the wrong 'log' and it is very labor intensive. There is no way I wuld ever attempt to hand quilt this lol!!!!!

Looking forward to seeing this. I love log cabins!

I am trying as hard as I can but I can't really get a vision of the finished top. It's interesting how the white sashing keeps the rust colored cross from also having the effect of sashing.

Do the next four blocks line up with the white on the top or also along the sides?

Hope it's fun to do!

Most people get enamored with the large ones that will over power a small space. One of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen was a tiny space planted with miniature plants including tiny hosta. Large makes a space look smaller, also small close and large far away creates the appearance of distance. If you must use large plants then plant large closer and smaller further away which creates an optical elusion of distance. Get some Jap landscape books and copy their plans mixing in hosta and it will look good, they usually plant in 3Âs of the same thing. When viewing a Jap photo see the rock as plants or sub plants for rocks, actually I donÂt feel landscape is complete without rock. A well designed garden starts with rock that look good year round and better in spring when the plants are up. Funny story, the Emperors landscapers had hauled many rocks without modern equipment, tired and worn out they told the Emperor that they had ALL the good rocks in the world and there were no more anywhere to be found in the entire known world. But, they would be gone 2-3 days a week looking diligently in case they missed one. I donÂt always accomplish my goal but it is to appear that God designed the landscape. I donÂt find what I call the collectors garden, 100 different hosta pitched up in the air planted where they fall, attractive. Hope I donÂt offend, you asked. If you have a right to do it your way then I have the same right. Don't ask again, I've already gotten on my last nerve. As soon as I hit send I'm going to smack the crap out of myself.

I could never eat bunnies! :-)I could imagine pet ones,but that doesn't really further susainability one bit.... With the tan oaks just removed from my driveway area, a lot more sun is coming through there. I want to try growing berries in the stumps. Any advice on that? I think we are going to focus on stormwater management and explore water catchement as well as improving our greywater system so that the water does not turn black anymore (We have a good book on that.) I'm going to experiment with planting guilds of natives just so that I can explore the natural relationships. We certainly can produce berries in the sunnier spots, if not on most of the property. We get our produce from a CSA anyway...and I have a community vegetable garden (small) up the street. In our remodeling, we are looking at choosing the most ecologically sensitive materials and methods we can determine. I can create a lot of good habitat in my yard. Probably, my best opportunity on this property is to concentrate on native revegetation and treat a lot of the place more like a Zone 5, which I get to learn from. In the next five years, I expect we'll move to a sunnier spot. For now, I continue to be taught by the forest. thanks for all your advice. Keep em coming!

Sorry I haven't uploaded photos; going to try to do it in the next few days. Have had so many doctor appointments between myself & my daughter; weekends have been spent cleaning the house because I'm hardly home during the week. From Trailrunner We are in awful place for tonight. Allen's sick. Motel near Union Conn. oh well . I'm stopping in Bar Harbor & going home miss my sweetie TOO much!!! Fantastic!

I am always amazed at the versatility of the simple log cabin block but that surprised me. There are parts that almost look curved. I saw that you used different widths. It's a great effect!

Carry on. You're going to be so proud of this one. ;>

Rosa,that's going to be a wonderful quilt. I admire your patience. I am lover of the LC pattern...so many different layouts. I have made 2 or 3 but it will be a long time before I attempt another one. As much as I love looking at LC quilts,I do not like making the blocks.

This is so beautiful! I love the fabric choices. I've never made a log cabin block and if I ever do it will be something really easy. I am in awe of your talent Rosa!

If you do them scrappy you can chain them sooooo fast from just strips and trim as you go. You can do a pile of blocks in a day and then it's just play getting to see how to set them. I suppose that, the charm, plus the simplicity of construction with so few seams to match is why I fell in love with them 40 years ago. Of course, that's when you're not doing a complicated layout and design like the one rosajoe is doing.
