Crazy idea for temporary deck?
Comments (10)Our old back porch was meant to only be temporary. It was one of those small things made for a construction trailer. It was made of regular old 2X4's and wood, not pressure treated. My Mom painted it 20 years ago and it lasted up until about 3 years ago. Really the only thing that was wrong was that my Dad rented the place out for 7 years and nobody took care of anything. The lady had a big rug out back on the porch and never moved it. It would get soaking wet and couldn't dry underneath so the wood under the rug started to rot. If someone would have repainted it in between there and they wouldnt' have put that big rug down, all would be well with the porch but DH and I ended up replacing it using scrap lumber from a deck that someone had replaced with vinyl :) So, no your idea isn't crazy. If you stain or paint, your temporary deck may last longer than you're thinking :)...See MoreTemporary Backsplash Ideas That Look Nice
Comments (15)Ohhhhh this is a fun project. Lets get creative... How about chalk board paint? This is from cooking light magazine. I know, I know a pain to clean but you can alway keep the paint handy for touch ups. How about a wood backsplash? Instead of beadboard paint a tile pattern on your wood backsplash. Put the wood up with tiny screws to keep it up. Meanwhile you can even paint some beautiful pattern or subtle lines to look like marble or mini tiles. How about paint and plexiglass? Paint the wall and cover with a piece of plexi glass so it is easy to clean. You can do any color. Faux painted tile? Or just painted with a paint that is scrubbable From Lulu Painting Rulers lined up? Maybe difficult to keep clean but no one else would have this. From Apartment therapy Someone mentioned cork already. This one is lovely. Yes, a bathroom but still lovely. This is similar to the dry erase on the link below. My vote is chalk board paint. So much fun!!!! Here is a link that might be useful: Magnetic Dry Erase board backsplash HGTV...See MoreLooking for Some Creative Ideas for 'Temporary' Screen Porch
Comments (8)Why not a shade sail with a gauzy fabric that would be rolled up most of the time but could be unrolled and tied down when you will be out? In my experience, the problem with temporary gazebos is that they fall apart in the wind. You would have a secondary issue that the shade sail is not engineered to hold the weight of the screen plus the wind the screen walls catch, so it would have to be a light fabric whatever you use (and again, I would suggest something you can roll up). I am going to be adding some cheesecloth-like fabric (not sure what I will use yet, maybe even old lace curtains, thinking "shabby chic") to my victorian kitchen porch so we can sit on it-it will add shade and bug protection. But I will do it so that I can roll it up into the roof if the wind is bad. We had one of those $300 gazebos (I think it was 10x10 or 12x12 when we lived in Illinois and it barely lasted the season before the wind sheared it. I think it was aluminum. Also, have you looked into solar fan options?...See MoreTemporary backsplash Wild ideas welcome!
Comments (9)We were vising some old neighbors and I noticed that they had wallpapered their refrigerator - why? I don't have a clue. But you could easily wallpaper the backsplash and it would be thin enough that it wouldn't alter the outlets. Now that I think of it - I'm not sure if it was wall paper or contact paper. I didn't have the nerve to ask....See More1917bungalow
