Dad passed away

My dad passed away on May 22. He had hepatitis and they had told us it would be about 8 months and it was. They figure he got it when he was in WW11 and was injured and had blood transfusions over in Italy. We had the funeral on the second anniversary of my mothers passing away. The had th4e most beautiful military ceremony for him. The night before as the wake was taking place a really bad storm went through. I tore the roof off of some buildings north and south of town and uprooted some trees at my brothers place that my mom and day had planted about 50 years ago. The day of the funeral there was 60 mile an hour winds and they couldnt even put up a tent at the cemetary. They had to do the 21 gun salute and the flag ceremony in front of the church instead out at the cemetary and they couldnt lay the flag on the casket because it would have blown away. We will miss him but we are glad he will not have to suffer anymore and that they are together again now.

Services were so nice. My oldest bro. encouraged people to laugh & he told of few of things dad had done, beautiful flowers,lots of family & friends & a wonderful celebration of his very full life! GF said it was 1st time she ever enjoyed a funeral. It was dignified but showed his strength, humor & love for animals & people. I found a cigar box later that day & in it he had a poem he had written, it's quit long & he was lamenting what man was doing to earth- in 1936, I sent a copy home with my brothers. Didn't know we was a poet too!!I didn't get but about1/4 in. down into the box which is 3 in. tall. Yocum Bros. Leaflet with a Y-B in center.Box would be worth something except he has masking tape all around edges to keep it in good shape. We are doing well, 2 yrs of having trouble walking are over, he is free now! JAN

Karen I hope your dad is ok, my mom has a pacemaker, and don't know if you know or not, but about every 5 years the battery must be changed. My mom is on coumadin, and when the time was coming close for her battery to be changed, she stopped the coumadin, but her blood levels were too high at the time so they put the changing of the battery off. Last summer, the damn pacemaker actually was protruding through her skin, she developed an infection, and we had to take her to a cardiac thoraic surgeon about 40 miles from here. In one day they removed the pacemaker, and she was on high levels of antibiotics for a week, the next week they put in the new pacemaker and she has been ok since, with the exception of this past fall breaking her hip. Oh its been one hell of a year!!! She's due to be released from this past session of nursing home/rehabilitation soon. As for the crackhead, he is digging his own grave. I am so sorry to hear about your loss, time heals all pain and it will get easier. My grandfather passed away when I was 7 months pregnant, I know how you feel I never knew my dad and he was my dad and all I wanted was to have him see his great grandbaby,Hospice is a great support team I dont know if there is one where you live but they are awesome, if there is give them a call. They deal in death daily they are very special people I could have never gone thru it without them. I belive in spirts and I also belive he will be there at your wedding watching over you.

How shocking and tragic to lose your dear father so suddenly. It seems so wrong. I know how hard it is just to type the title of your posting. Both my parents have been gone for several years now, but I think of them often--my mother mostly almost every day. You'll always miss your dad, but the pain and confusion you are experiencing now will lessen gradually. It's good to have family members to support each other. Heartfelt condolences. Please accept my sympathies for the loss of your dear father. Military funerals always bring tears to my eyes. Your last sentence is something I try so hard to remember when I start grieving the loss of my son. He was in so much pain before he died, he is pain free and in peace now, like your father. I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. And at the same time glad that his suffering is over. I hope you find the same peace in that end to suffering that I did when my mom left us after four years of suffering following a stroke. They are happy now and at peace. That's good to know.

Greetings bengardening,

I offer my condolences on the loss of your dear father.

We sometimes feel a bit like a boat cast adrift when one of the mainstays of our life ...

... makes that final departure.

My Dad, who expected to die a couple of thousand miles from where he grew up and where he planned to be buried, had chosen cremation, as it was going to be easier to carry an urn of ashes ...

... but was killed instantly when he drove out in front of a truck, about four miles from where he'd grown up.

Several people at the time told us how sad and sorry they were at our loss - he was in his mid-80s - but I said that, were we able to interview Dad at the moment, and ask him whether he had any complaints, he'd say that he hadn't, that everything was fine!

And if Dad wasn't going to bi!ch ... how could I? He'd come down to visit old friends, and was busy doing what he enjoyed doing ...

... when he was taken.

I called the trucker the next day (who was taking a few days off to recuperate) and said that I was sure that my brother and sister would want me to tell him how sad we were that our Dad had caused him so much pain.

He said several times during our conversation how much he appreciated my call.

May you and yours find peace in your hearts, coming out of these troublesome days.
