Wrong Way driver- Did you hear about this?

A woman drove 900 miles from Belgium all the way to Croatia by accident. She was driving along, saw road signs in French, then German, then Croatian. Why didn't she stop? She was following the instructions of her GPS! (That could have been me- just the other day I drove ten miles past my doctor's office, had to turn around and was 20 minutes late. Luckily my blood pressure didn't go up.

What was her original destination? Hopefully not her doctors office. ;)

I always think of a GPS as a calculator. So many people rely on calculators as giving them the right answer and not questioning the answer that they are given. Yes, they're a great tool but you need to know basic math to know whether or not the answer is within the realm of being possible - you might have punched in a wrong number.

Just like a GPS. You need to know basically what direction in which you are headed and how far you are going to know and understand if the GPS is giving you proper directions.

Wow. Dancing with the STARS -- The word "STARS" leaves a whole lot of leeway for interpretation. It used to be that only folks who were in movies or on prime time dramatic television shows were referred to as STARS. A singer or a (gasp!) rodeo cowboy would never be referred to or thought of as a STAR. Personally, I still don't think of a rodeo cowboy, no matter how many events he has won, as a STAR. I don't think of an Olympic gymnast as a STAR -- I think of an Olympic gymnast as an athlete. Maybe we should all write in to ABC and suggest they change the name of the show to "Dancing with Folks who are Well Known Within Their Area of Expertise." For what it's worth, I thought Melissa was, if not THE best, one of the two best dancers tonight. And she only agreed to be on the show on Friday, and didn't get her first rehearsal until Saturday morning. With the exception of Holly Madison, who had FIVE DAYS to rehearse, everyone else had FOUR WEEKS to rehearse.

It amazes me that so many people who have never seen the show can pass their own judgment on Jon and Kate. They listen to the tabloid shows and decide what they think. That's like me thinking the National Enquirer has all their facts right. What strikes me as strange is all the talk on tv about Jon and Kate and how awful they are for putting the kids in front of the camera, when the TV personalities, in front of the camera are the dip sh*t's making all the made up and mean comments. They are stoking the fire so to speak. I don't know how these idiot's can sleep at night making up things about everyone they can think of. The lies people hear daily and BELIEVE makes me angry. Guess it wouldn't be the American way if the Gossliens had a show and the newscrackers left them alone. I may not know the true story behind the story but I bet a great deal of the time I know when the so called TV newscrackers are pulling one on me. Don't you just feel it??! The more lies, the more intense the story the more people eat it up. I couldn't live with a job like that.. Even if Jon and Kate are screwing up their marriage, the way the tabloid shows whine and lie, the morality and integrity of the these jerks, makes me want to throw my tv away. If the tables were turned and Jon and Kate started telling lies about the celeb newscrackers, there would be helk to pay. It's all a one way street because the talk shows know they have the power to retaliate. Even on the kt Jon and Kate threads, made up so called facts are the norm. For example,,Kate doesn't ever do anything with her kids. If you watch the show, she is most likely the instigator of the things the kids do. And she is doing it with them because they are the kids and there are eight of them! I can see some people being jealous of all the things Jon and Kate and the kids get for free but I see that on every show. These people get publicity for their products being on the show. Can you imagine, give some curvy houses to the show and wala, 30 thousand calls wanting to know more about them! Do you really think they are doing this out of the goodness of their widdle business hearts? Kate did say they were donated too. And she thanked them! Kate really blew it with Jon. She should be strong for the kids but she can't be telling him how he should be all the time. If they could have found a way to have more time together alone, walking a beach, just enjoying each other, the out come might be completely different. I really don't know though..(Like Jon said about 40 times last night.)

What a tragedy. Snakes are usually gentle creatures except when they feel threatened. We don't know, and probably never will, what can set them off. I have a healthy respect for them. I can understand a professional handler having a snake, but even then it's risky. Unfortunate story, but the fact is that a snake is a wild animal and not meant to be "domesticated". Leave that for the cats and dogs.

Yes, that’s him, Zach. I’m so sad I don’t even know what to say. He mentioned being sick at times, but I had no idea it was that serious. I was just thinking about him a few days ago, and hoping he’d be back to post again soon. He’ll be very missed here on RMG. He always had the very best advice when there was someone he could help—and his sense of humor was amazing. I was lucky enough to meet him in person—and see his amazing garden/property—in 2008 when I was down at Four Corners, staying at a place near Dolores—where he lived. He was devoted to his family and always spent as much time as he could with his children. Rest in Peace and Light, David. I’ll visit you in Spirit when I’m back down that way in a couple months. Whew, I thought you were going to say she was driving on the wrong side of the road!

My GPS has sent me off in odd directions, but I will say it almost always gets me where I am going. One time I was going to a newly built shopping mall which was not on the GPS maps. I thought the poor dear would have a heart attack!

There have been stories about people's tendency to follow instructions provided by what they consider to be an 'authority' -- even if the instructions run counter to common sense.

There was a peeping tom who would call women and identify himself as an 'official'. He would explain that they needed to follow his instructions to do stupid things like remove clothing. And they DID!

900 miles?? I understand getting off course or not paying attention, but she didn't happen to notice she was driving for the entire day? She would have to stop for gas, food and bathroom breaks. Sounds fake to me.

Seems like I read aout this a LONG time ago.....like years. Was there a date on the item you read? I've also had my GPS tell me to turn where there were no turns (except into a parking lot) and to turn right when I could see my destination on the left.

I Googled this today...and, sure enough, it happened a while ago...in January. The funny part, to me, is that she (a 67 year old woman) was only going to pick up a friend at a train station 90 miles away....says she got "distracted" ..????

This is Jannie, the original poster. I saw the story on Yahoo, I thought it was "current". The article I read didn't give her age or destination. I didn't mean it as a sexist or ageist attack. I just thought it was funny. I am so bad a driver. I've gotten lost in my own town several times. I used to carry a paper telephone book map of my town in my car. I really thought two roads that are parallel actually intersected. Once I figured that one out, I haven't been "lost" in several years.
