Pardon me while I have a nervous breakdown.

I fed my family to the dregs of my refridgerator/freezer. I took out my shelves and drawers and cleaned it thoroughly

with baking soda. It's beautiful. I went to Krogers and spent $300 dollars to restock for holidays. Me and the kids put everything away. At the end of shuffling my Lean Cuisine Butternut Ravioli (delicious, BTW) I noticed the freezer light had just gone out. As a matter of fact, it was very quiet,too.

It's dead. ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!

And now, I'm thinking....I can salvage the drawers and store my FQs in them.

Still, AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH !

Oh, that just figures! It's exactly the sort of thing that would happen to me.

If it's an older unit, it may just be that the fan motor stuck. Sometimes, just tapping on the fan covering can get it started again. If I were NOT an occupational safety professional I would suggest you even try nudging one of the fan blades with a chopstick or other long thin piece of wood, but since that could lead to injury if it wasn't done right I would NEVER suggest it.

There are some basic features that have been around for ten years but they are not here! This is the only forum I know of that does not send email notices when someone adds to a thread you have posted to. Nor have I ever seen a site that does not distinguish between threads with new posts (since your last visit) and threads you are already up to date on. The above features are so basic, I don't understand why we don't have them. Laurie the option you checked for email, means that if another person here wanted to send you a private email, she can do so through the site. I don't think there is any way to get email notification of activity in a given thread. :(

Thank you so much for letting us know, Patricia. I love the talented Mr. Peacock! :o) I might be mistaken, but I believe Ms. Edna was in her 70s when they met, bumblebeez. I've read in interviews that she was a much beloved mentor & friend. He's said that he found comfort in caring for her in her later age. She passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 89.

I LOVE Cat Man Do, saw it for the first time about two years ago and keep coming back to it for a good laugh. We have cats and that is so true. (Not the baseball bat but how they wake you for food even when the bowl is not empty. I'll have to view the others. I have seen I Can Has Cheezburger? but not the other one. Also had a good laugh about Rhymes With Orange in the Sunday paper because it so describes what my cats do. Unfortunately it's not available in the archives yet but it showed a bunch of animals falling into a bed fitting perfectly together, though in different shapes, and fitting perfectly right up against the human, who is lying wide awake on his crowded bed. Below is the caption "Petris" (like Tetris, for anyone who has played). My cats hem me in almost every night.

Hi David! The member has to have messaging turned on to receive a private message. Some do, some don't. To find out, click on the person's name in a post they have either started or commented on, which opens their member page. At the top right of that page, if they have messaging turned on (as you do), you should see a "Message" tab to the right of their name. If you don't see that tab, they don't have messaging turned on. Then, you're left with asking in a post if anyone knows how to reach them or start a post with their screen name in the subject in hopes of drawing their attention to it. Good luck!

I FEEL your pain. Ours did that a few years ago only it was full to the brim, and in the basement so we didn't discover it for 2 weeks. Talk about a mess (we won't go there), but DH cleaned it out (gotta love him for that) and we finally got the smell gone. Turns out it was an $8 thermostat and once DH replaced it worked like new.

Here is my refrig story: We turned it off because we'd be away a few months. Cleaned it, and left the doors open. When we started it up again -oops, no luck! My DH engineer found that if you turn it off in the middle of the deforst cycle it appears to be out of order. So, we turned it on and waited and it worked! Amen to that. Hope this helps someone else.

My sympathy to you for all the work you did!

Thank you my dears, for the sympathy, and the plan of action. I do recall when my computer wouldn't boot up, I got annoyed and gave it a punch. Instant boot. I was trying the same thing on the fridge, but it's hard to really give a jarring punch to a whole refrigerator. Sons were a bit concerned as first, but enthusiastic when I explained. :D

Teenage sons to the rescue! Not that they had more luck punching it, my oldest used brainpower. We had it emptied (again) and they tipped it. Then they let it slam back down about six inches--it seemed like a foot to me, but what were they going to do? Break it???

HUMMMMM said the freezer, and the light was back on, too.

It took me all day to get over it. I had to call my sister and complain of an anxiety attack (bingo! easy stitches, all that cleaning wasted!) and after one hour of her boyfriend problems I'd forgotten all about my fridge and had a grateful sister as well.
