Best tile color w/white cabinets and black counter top?

Help! My dad is coming up this weekend to tile my kitchen floor and I have no idea what to do for a color! My cabinets will be painted white w/stainless steel pulls, appliances are white, sink is stainless steel and my counter top will be black.

Would a light tannish-brown floor work? Or should it be darker? Help! Time's running out!

Here's a pic of our cream colored cabinets with black counters and "tannish-brown floor". Our floor is travertine. I have seen several ceramic/porcelain tiles that have the same shades. I also liked some with more gray overtones. HTH.

Look for Buehl's thread "new to GW? Help posting pictures.." There are detailed instructions in that post. It is usually on page 1, sometimes it slips down before being bumped. Essentially, get yourself a photobucket acount set up, upload your photos, and then you will click on the html code, copy and paste it into your message here. When you do the Preview Message, you will see the photo. But look at that post for better details. As far as your kitchen, my friend is doing exactly what you are talking about. She chose Giallo Ornamental for her counters. She though about black too, but I cautioned her that it might look too dark for her space. Her counters currently (well, before they were ripped out) are a light formica. So, to make the drastic change I think would have darkened the space. The colors in the GO really worked nicely with the black appliances, the oak, and the gray in it worked with the stainless faucet and sink. Glad I found this thread. I'm having my kitchen redone almost exactly like WillTV's, though I'm eschewing the black subway tile and having all-white. Yes, it's safe, but I live in a one-bedroom apartment in NYC and don't plan on being there more than three more years, so I want to appeal to myself and as many other people as possible. We agree with much of what was said so far, and would definitely suggest a counter made from Polished Carrera Quartz. It looks very much like marble, but is low-maintenance and stain-resistant. As another project idea (and something that would widen your countertop possibilities), painting your cabinets a lighter color could be helpful. I know you said you just refinished them (and they look very nice!), but painting them a lighter and brighter color may still be worth considering at some point.

Thank you again. I am thinking more darker or intense color which would be more cooler. I would definitely get couple of samples to see how they will look with my counter. I think I m actually going to go with the cream/white dove cabinets and charcoal grey island with white/Creme backsplash. In the end if we decide that we have a budget to do something with the floors, which tone of wood flooring or wood like tiles will go with this color choice ??? I personally like dark grey oak floors but right next to kitchen is living and foyer with light bamboo floors!!!!

vwhippiechick - Sometimes your kitchen paint looks more green and sometimes it look more brown. How does it look IRL? Sorry to hijack your post, blue67.

It is definitely brown - "cafe" is the name. It does have green undertones. And it does look different at different times of the day IRL. The angles of the light change constantly as we have a skylight. Also I am not a very good photographer so that could be some of it.

vwhippiechick - Thanks. I remember it being a paint that I can't get here, but it reminds me of BM Woodstock Tan which I used in an entryway. It's brown, but I see green at times so it sounds similar to yours.
