Shades with day/night privacy but view preserved - fantasy?!?
Comments (18)Thank you to everyone for all of your ideas, insights, sharing your own personal experiences and to sbp59 for sharing photos of your own shades. After exploring all the options, I do not believe a shade exists that would provide day view and night privacy and fit my other constraints (e.g., style, price). I plan to either use my back-up option of TDBU light filtering honeycomb or shell out the bucks for a Silhouette type product (depending on how many bucks are involved). If I go with the latter, I will probably opt for a brand less expensive than Hunter Douglas, such as Levelor. I really do appreciate everyone's help here. I may not have found my fantasy shade, but you all have definitely helped speed up my decision process. Had I not come here for advice, I'd probably be hemming and hawing over this for months! As it stands, I expect to make a decision once I've had both options priced out, so hopefully within a week. Thank you all again!!!...See MoreNeed a Lesson 101: Solar shades vs Screen shades vs Roller shades
Comments (3)I've never heard that Solar Shades are to be used on the exterior only and I've seen plenty of use on double pane windows within the house. If a shade had an insulating effect and was sealed along the edges or had sealed side tracks, then that would not be safe to use with double pane. Solar screens are just that.....screens. They go outside the window just as any other type of screen is used. Roller shades can be decorative lightweight window coverings, but the term 'roller' is also used for the Solar Shades since they are usually on some type of roller system. It sounds like Solar Shades will fit your need. Here is a link that might be useful: Interior Shades...See MoreSolar Shades or light filtering shades
Comments (5)Light filtering shades have a few degrees to pick from; the smaller the holes, the more light is filtered. I had chocolate brown ones in a former house that had a southern exposition in the master, and 3 sets of french doors, lots of heat and light were coming in, I loved that I was able to walk in the room and still see the view, yet not have so much heat generated. We got used to sleeping with light in the morning....See MoreEnergy efficient windows and Cellular shades/solar shades
Comments (4)We build cellular shades here in Vermont with Hunter Douglas cellular fabric made by Comfortex. We have a good client base in Australia, as well as other very hot places in the US, so I asked a Comfortex rep about any heat limits. The fabric we build our shades with has no limitation that would preclude usage in extremely hot locations. If you invest in a quality shade it'll last you. Ours last 20 years! Hope that helps!...See Morecat_mom
