removing load bearing wall

I'm planning on removing a load bearing wall btwn my kitchen and living room. One side of my header will extend to sit on above the foundation. The other end will carry its weight down to the basement where it will sit on top of a steel I-beam. There is a lolly column about 2 feet from where the basement load will sit. Is that OK, or do I need to put a column directly under the load. It's a finished basement and I'd like not to tear up the floor, etc.
