Neutral rooms -- Why you can't duplicate the look in a magazine

Recently, beekeeperswife has been writing about how a white room can look flat if you don't have good lighting in a room. I would take it a step farther and say you can't really duplicate the beautiful, nuanced, warm, textural ambience that looks so inviting in the magazine photos because the rooms are lighted by professional photographers. And they have the lighting down to a science AND an art. Then the photo is Photoshopped afterwards to heighten reality. It's probably true for colored rooms as well.

I found this article on the web about how photographers light rooms for photo shoots. I was surprised at the amount & kind of equipment used: Gels on windows to control sunlight color; gold reflectors; bouncing light off of ceilings.

Anyway, thought you GWers might find it interesting.
