Look what I found out bout the KT and our postings

I googled one of the threads from yesterday and I found this site. It is a profile of usage, postings, topics etc. If you click on each name in the chart it lists their most recent post. For instance it lists Glenda as having the most posts, and if you click her name her most recent topic comes up. Alisande was second.

I wonder what they do with the information?

Wow...that gives me a bit of a "creepy" feeling. We all know that what we post is "public" but I guess just seeing us as stats being watched is not comfortable.
As I have said to my kids for years...please be careful about what you post and where.

Anything you post on the internet is public, no surprise there.

As for what they do with the info, use it to sell ads probably.

lmao Karyn, I know alot of people hate it cuz it's invasive, but I told DH he could have the back of the yard for his crap, and I really want something hardy and full that will climb high to be at the back of beds to block his crap..an old van he uses as storage..crap! his junk he brings home he thinks he may someday have a need for..crap!! And I need something to cover the shed in the back, I usually use morning glories and moon flowers, but was thinking of using the trumpet vine this year. I don't want ivy cuz I hate how bees n wasps make their homes in it. Aw, poor mystery snails. went to heaven with my poor lil plecos. Yeah those stupid koi are survivors, lol. Mine are getting stupid too. They hide all the time now. I think it has something to do with something trying to get them. The other day mine were coming up to the top right in front of me when I was feeding them. Now they keep hiding. Do you have your calla in the ground? Maybe I should put mine in the ground when they are done blooming. Well, I went out weeding, and found another one of those lil babies..I pulled it. Wasn't a runner, had a tiny lil root system. Watch it be something I threw down seeds for in the fall, lol. But I did leave the other one so we'll see what it is, and if anyone has any guesses and proves to be right..well then..they'll be right, lol. Sorry no prizes :) I have so much coming up, and threw down so many seeds, I'm scared to pull anything.

Matti, I tried to reach out to you and Georgie. Chemocurl was working with me on the other side with new computer techniques. I even made a Halloween card that included Georgie's dog and others for Georgie using my new training.I got in trouble for posting the final result of my training but I was thrilled to have chemocurl as my friend. Very patient and I learned a lot and liked that she is so darn real and tries to be kind and encouraging. I was moving right into Georgie's backyard and she asked me where I was going to live. when I told her where I was moving to I got no answer. I understood and moved on. When georgie called out for me I told her I was on the Computer Help side. No answer and when I came back to trivia it was not the same for me. Jasdip was clear I was not wanted even though when she was having personal problems I offered her a place to run to. Georgie, never spoke to me again and jasdip missed the fact that I won 2 days in a row. Not much to analyze. For a long time the questions were repeats and too easy to google and I didn't want to be a part of people who did that. I enjoyed the smart answers to the dumb questions that were impossible to answer. Quite a mess but possibly a misunderstanding on the part of you and georgie and me. Someone suggested journaling every morning and and what I wrote back to you all it was off the page in a couple of minutes due to an onslaught of everyone writing at once. I got lost in the shuffle and was off the page before anyone could read it. I probably was not the only one whose posts were missed. A bad idea that I guess stopped. But I am on other sites like Computer Help and Decorating where one can go off the subject and talk about any thing off topic from decorating on a side channel. I will continue to come over here but I miss so many who got passed over and left. It is great to have a core group and I find Alisande and others spot on with good questions so when it comes to someone being ill or losing a spouse I am there. Like Phoggie who lost her husband. I don't see her and because she was brought to this site maybe by raven she got taken care of and was able to move on. I miss mommyme if that is the right name and wrote her when she got ignored and sue va who doesn't answer my e-mails. I remember the big build up when you join. The hellos and glad to have you but they don't last for some of us. There is a core group of wonderful people like Glenda who has always something going on. Inspirational and would love to meet her. And others who never recognize my questions or praise. But I feel the need to tell them they are clever like lazypup and his frog.It would take another 10 years to be recognized by some. Sorry, Susan that I hijacked this. It may be that I only want a few to know how I feel. But I suspect people are concerned about your health and will find this rant but may pass over to get to your new info. You have been a great help for many people I understand and taught them to journal about their life. Good stuff. It seems that so many are glad you did that. Let's see you figure this out. I am hoping for new news and good treatment. Yes, you are someone I would like to meet also. Please keep journaling your time of day and reactions. And if your BP is important stay with it because mine fluctuates so very much without a bit of caffeine in my body. Enough... Ellie

Side topic: Salgal, it's a shame your ex didn't tell his half-sib WHY he dropped her. She must have been terribly hurt. What you've described is the natural familial attraction that bonds families. When it doesn't take place between young children within their natural families, and they first meet as adults, the love and familiarity sometimes feels sexual. At my search and support group we always warned reuniting adoptees and birthfamily members about this. Knowing that these powerful feelings could be confusing helped to prevent some terrible heartaches. Where people misinterpreted the feelings and acted on them sexually, it destroyed the development of a genuine family bond. An adoptee, having lived a whole life knowing he is 'different', separated from his genetic kin, is especially vulnerable to mistaking powerful feelings of connection. (This is entirely separate from an adoptee's love for the adoptive parents and siblings.)

Our 40s were the most fun. We were 41 when DD went to university, our alma matter. She was close enough to home for weekend visits and we enjoyed football weekends with her. Our income was stable enough to pay for college out of current earnings and no need to get into college savings. My mother was still in her prime, so no worries there. An empty nest meant we had time to really get into outdoor activities, particularly whitewater kayaking and we still had the physical ability to go all out. We took some wonderful trips -- a kayaking trip to the French Alps, three 8 day wilderness whitewater trips down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, kayaking trips to Colorado and lots of long weekends to the Smokies. DH and I both went through the process and training to become certified whitewater kayak instructors and he also was a certified Swiftwater Rescue instructor. We both enjoyed volunteer teaching through our local club. Although we had been skiing for years, when we were 41 we finally bought a ski condo in the resort town where we now live (as of last November) and upgraded to a second home here when we were 49 (and DD had graduated from University and moved here.) We usually made at least two, sometimes three, ski trips a year out here along with summer trips. Our 50s were kind of blah (except for DDs wedding), multiple health issues for DH (knee replacement, back issues, a bout with post concussive syndrome, gastrointestinal issues, etc. ) and I needed to have to take more time taking care of my mother (as well as DH). All this slowed down our outdoor activities almost entirely, except for some skiing and an occasional whitewater trip, but without the constant practice our skills suffered. Our 60s are starting out well. Most significant is the birth of our DGS last year. We've built and just moved into our dream house in our dream location, with DD, DSIL and DGS next door. My Mom still takes a lot of attention, but instead of living alone an hour away, she is thriving in a very nice Senior facility, less than 5 minutes from us. DH still has some back issues but other issues are much improved and he skis at a very high level on his new knee. With a season ski pass our skiing is picking back up both in endurance and skill. I might even be able to get back into kayaking this summer since a fun little whitewater river runs right through town and DSIL is interested in learning. DH can't kayak anymore because of his back problems and a fusion of cervical vertebrae, but has bought a raft and hopefully his back (now lower back problems) will allow him to do some rowing. We still aren't completely retired, but working more part time --2 days a week for him and a couple of hours most days for me. However, full retirement is planned in the next couple of years.

I'm married to a lawyer now and something I've learned is this: You should never post anything online that you're not willing to have made public and posted on a 20x20 screen in a court room (and be made to defend). These posts are never anonymous. You're very trackable online.

I have seen the Boardreader before for the Plant and Seed Exchanges here, but never mentioned it, thinking it might 'creep' some folks out.

I for one, don't mind and am not concerned by the boardreader, or similar sites, because of usually being careful and editing anything that I post publicly. I don't want any chance of anything biting me in the butt later.

WTG Glenda. And we're not rich and famous yet?

When Spike had the board we couldn't delete just a post, it had to be the whole thread. Now you can request just your post to be deleted. So you do have the opportunity to remove those vile posts about Aunt Martha.

Doesn't bother me. It is not up to date as far as the posters last posting goes plus I think it only goes back as far as the KT pages do... so once the post drops off the 54th page (or whatever it is now) it is gone. Anybody can put in a person's user name in the search box here at the KT and see all the posts as well.

I don't see that these statistics represent a problem. As others have said, the bottom line is to be careful what you post.

However, if I really and truly posted at the KT 103 times over the past week, I'm going to have to find a 28-day program for Internet addiction.

I guess if anybody wants to find me bad enough....
In fact this is how I found the KT years ago.
I have nothing to hide but my fat.

Every forum on the entire net keeps track of member lists,posts,other statistical info etc. This is nothing new. Some even give their members a quick link to the info.

I you post it it can be found. Public boards, and even many so-called private boards are easy to view.

Like others said if you don't want something known by virtually everyone don't post it.

I wonder if this is how the moderators of iVillage/GW/THS keep abreast of controversial topics. If a topic is controversial it is usually pretty active. The site in question lists the:

1) Latest Active Threads
2) Hot Threads for Last Week

This might explain how hot topics get pulled so quickly.

Just a thought.

You can also just Google ThatHomeSite, your user name or Garden Web and all of your postings come up. I thought everyone knew if they posted something here that it wasn't private. I don't know about private boards like the Meeting House if those posts show up or not. If I can see what you posted so can everyone else who wants to see it or look for whatever else you have posted just by Googling your screen name. I guess that is why we don't use our surnames here.

I don't have anything to hide and if someone wants to read what I posted I don't really care. Maybe they will learn something from us all.

I also think that many of the staff of the food network & hgtv are always reviewing our site...for ideas for their shows! About 5 yrs ago-after 8 months after completeing a 'farm theme' bedroom for my grandson-(which I had pics posted)...lo & behold-one show ran a segment with the way I covered my animals in the wall decor! Coincidence?
