Installing wood parquet floor : any tips for us?

We pulled out the carpeting in our daughterÂs room, who has allergies to dust (and moreÂ). My husband wants to install parquet wood squares in her room. The room is 11 x 16 feet.

We have tongue and groove strip oak flooring in our kitchen: having watched the crew installing that, he feels that parquet will be easier for a DIYÂer. Plus he likes the look. Some people might think itÂs dated but we toured a vintage house recently and the parquet floor was his favorite part.

They are 1 foot square tongue and groove. We bought the special adhesive sold for them and an application trowel. I downloaded instructions from the Home Depot website. The instructions say to cut with a jigsaw rather than a rotary saw because there are metal strips embedded in parquet. (Seems odd, but there must be a reason why they are there.) ThatÂs fine since we have one of those anyway.

Know any other special tricks that might be helpful?
