favorite pink paint for nursery: anyone used BM's Ribbon Pink?

We're ready to start painting the nursery for our August arrival, and I'm fretting about getting the shade of pink right. Too many times things go up on the wall and just are NOT right at all.

I think I've committed to BM's Ribbon Pink. Has anyone used it? Thoughts?

The room is south-facing, fairly small, and has a good-sized window. Trim is a yellow-toned oak that _hopefully_ will eventually get painted white (it would be the first room that we paint the trim in, and the timing depends on how many projects we are able to fit in before the baby arrives). Carpet is a fairly neutral color. Panel curtains are currently a sheer white but I am hoping to make some out of the fabric in the link eventually. This fabric will be one of the primary ones in her wall quilt; we'll be picking up the aqua and pink tones primarily, with some splashes of the pear green.

I'd considered going for a light shade of pink but DH is afraid it will get washed out in that room, especially until/unless we get the trim painted. Most of the other colors in the house are in a richer spectrum.

I looked in the gallery but couldn't find any threads on pink paint.

I should add that her crib is a natural wood tone, on the lighter end of the spectrum. Sheets will be aqua or a darker pink than the walls, and crib skirt will either be white or else maybe the same fabric as I linked above.

I'm also wondering about Elephant Pink, which is the next shade lighter on the strip that Ribbon Pink is on. Hmmm...maybe I'll get samples of both and paint up some swatches.

Yes, I've been looking at the colors at ALL times of the day... morning, noon, night, sunny days, cloudy days, lights on, lights off... :-) I went to the paint store today, and they were pretty helpful. They said if too much red is showing to look for a color that has more green. (the green cancels out the red... makes sense now that I think about it...) So the two colors that seem to be standing out are Fresh Butter and Hawthorne Yellow. I'm also debating Barley and Vellum. BTW, they gave me a great tip at the paint store: to grab several of the little paper strips of the color I'm interested in (say, Fresh Butter) and cut out the color I want from all the strips, and then tape the little squares together to make a bigger square. This will give me a chance to see the color in a bigger "swatch" before committing to the little $4 sample pot of paint (yeah, $4 doesn't seem like much, but I've already bought three and the colors, once "big," looked SO different from the little chip that I could probably easily go through 4 or 5 different sample pot colors, and it's going to really add up!) Favorite yellows Benjamin Moore Moonlight Yellow (this is not my home a Pottery Barn add, I wish I could find the right picture to really show the color, this ad does a much better job.) The way the light hits in the morning or evening light melts the color to feel warm, gentle and always light. I have two story windows so there light is always coming in. I love this color. I have noticed that painters will use whatever they get for a discounted rate. Then many will try to convince their customers they are using high quality paint when they really are using the "builder grade" quality paint. The painter I used for years used what I asked him to use, although I knew that he really wanted to buy SW where he had a discount and account. Anyway, case in point is the entire house painting that my BFF just did in her home. I told her not to buy SW but her husband insisted. Her painter assured her that it was high quality so the ENTIRE house was painted in this crap. A couple weeks after it was done, she was wiping off a mark and the paint literally began to wash off the walls. The paper towel was barely damp. She freaked out and called the painter. The painter then contacted SW and it was revealed he did not use their best paint but certainly a paint that should have withstood light scrubbing. To their credit, SW paid the painter to use their Duration paint and repaint the ENTIRE house AGAIN. However, not only did the painter pass off his materials as better than they were but she later confirmed with SW that it was indeed "builder grade" lower-line paint that is heavily discounted to the trade; certainly not what she was insisting he use. And, the SW paint was not what it said it was either or else why would they pay to have her job done with better paint. Needless to say they will not only never use SW paints again, but they will insist on a specific line of paint and check those cans when they are brought in the house. Good painters IMHO are hard to find. I know I was depressed for a week when our painter moved out of state. He was the best!

Haha, yeah that was my plan too. Pick something she would be able to grow with. We had BM gray owl at our old house and it looked nice w the lavender bedding, and I felt like I could change out the bedding and it would change up the room comepletly. But I felt like gray owl would be awful with the trim color. So I wanted a warm purplish gray. I painted the room myself, so when it came out more PURPLE than I wanted, I figured it was no more work to repaint in the future when she has an opinion than to repaint then. Unfortunately, I'm finding that girls have many more opinions much earlier than boys. My 18 mo DD has very strong opinions on which clothes, shoes, coat, etc that she wears. She also has strong opinions on what me and my DH wear. So I feel like it's only a matter of time before she starts critiquing my paint color choices :) DS is 4, took navy as close enough to black to make him happy, and hadn't looked back. DD is her own person, that's for sure! Cant wait to see what you end up with!

I would go with the lighter shade on the strip. Pink always looks so much more intense when on an entire wall. I have the palest pink on the walls in my girls' room. I'm sorry I can't for the life of me remember the color so I can't make any recommendations.

If you do end up trying a richer pink you might want to look at Conch. I have it in my living room and it has more of a peach undertone so it looks great with my wood trim and furniture. Surprisingly it looks good with almost any color you put next to it. Even DH likes it, although we are not allowed to call it pink ("It's Conch!")

I used BM Fondant. I have used pink several times and finally found the perfect subtle pink - not bubble gum pink. Fondant is a soft pink. When the light is on at night it has a lovely pink glow but not over powering. When I put it on one wall it appeared too light. After the fourth wall it was just perfect! Because the color bounces off each other. It is a very subtle pink but pink enough. Take a look at the chip and hold it up to a white one - you might like it. Pinks are tough and I don't want you to wind up with Pepto pink. Good luck!

Not a BM but I used Ralph Lauren Gardenia in my daughter's playroom - it's mote of a ballet slipper pink and looks great with raspbery. green, blue, yellow - very versatile.

Thanks! I'll pull samples of RL Gardenia and BM Fondant too. I don't want anything too peachy given the other colors I'm working with--looking for more of a clear pink but probably with some gray undertones to help keep it from going Pepto. I think it needs to either be pale or very intense to work, and I don't have enough white in the room to handle very intense.
