I'm thinking of using BM Barley in my kitchen.....its a really warm golden color but maybe not yellow enough for you.

But I'm also interested in other yellows out there that people have used in a kitchen. I'm going to have creamy white cabs and black counters. Maybe something brighter!

My dining room is Restoration hardware Butter- thats a really pretty yellow.

I think I'm using Rich Cream, which has been described here by some as "too yellow". I guess it is if you are looking for white, but it really isn't all that yellow... Just a soft yellowy cream. I found the color on this month's cover of Traditional Home magazine. I know they don't always photograph true, but I've picked up the small pot and tried it on my walls. It's a Benjamin Moore color.

I am in the exacty situation right now. My walls are striped from all the BM samples. I'm so color challenged. I tryed Chestertown Buff (too mustard), Barley (like it but a little too cool)..I need something darker and creamier. I have alot of warm colors throughout my house. Its really driving me crazy! I'm going to try these other colors you mentions..

Anyone ever use SW Butter Up?

Hi, we're using Golden Honey for our kitchen. There was a picture in a Kitchen/Bath magazine, that I fell in love with, ya know at the back where they list the designer, well I called her & she said you can't miss with this color. She said uses this color in every house she does, & the clients love it. I know it doesn't help much, but we'll be using it in about 3 weeks. It is a beautiful color.

I have painted big swatches on posterboard of Lemon Drops, Squish-squash, and Golden Honey. Lemon Drops was toooooo bright. I really liked Squish-squash but my hubby thought it looked just the same as Lemon Drops (but he only saw it at night, with artificial lighting). I loved Golden Honey but due to time constraints, ended up painting and hanging the posterboard right before dusk - same issue with artificial lighting. I can't wait till the sun comes up this morning so I can see it in daylight!

Also look at BM Desert Tan - I used it in my bathroom and get tons of compliments on it!

I would definitely describe Desert Tan as a warm yellowly-gold!!!

Following the suggestion of a poster in another forum who had painted her entire house with desert tan I decided to do almost the same thing. I painted my kitchen, back entryway, family room, living room, front entry and the hallway leading to the bedrooms all in desert tan and I love it. All this area is open to the other rooms in one way or another so it really works...and will go with any color I decide to use in the bedrooms. Be sure and give it a look.

Most of my house is done in Toasted Wheat, a Behr color. It is not yellow, and actually is far fetched from the color on their pamphlet, and I really love it. It seems to change according to light from a soft weathered gold to a buttery yellow, a tan and a yellow with some pink undertones, I suppose the reason it gets along with so many colors.

I have painted my LR, foyer and hallway in BM Suntan. I love it. It's a happy cheerful golden yellow, that I find every easy to live with. My rooms are facing North and Suntan brings some sunshine into otherwise dark rooms. I don't thhink it is offered in sample pots, but I do urge you to at least consider it. I am just so pleased...

Before listing our house for sale, I painted the living room, breakfast room, kitchen, family room and dining room SW Navajo White with Behr Ultra Pure White for trim and doors. The Navajo White was a pale creamy gold, and we got lots of compliments from realtors on the color. There was a wide variation in the amount of sun and indirect light all the areas received, and the paint looked great everywhere.

I used SW Butter Up in my guest bedroom. The room has a loft and 4 tall windows. The ceiling, at peak, is 22' tall. The curtains are a classic cotton/linen pastoral toile in a yellow ground with medium blue pattern. The ceiling is SW Bone China. The room always gets oohs and ahs. Butter Up is a real "statement" color. It's yellow, not sort of this or sort of that. Not gold, not beige, not green, not camel, etc. YELLOW.

Well, it turns out that the big swatches I painted on the posterboards are much more peach and yellow than I was expecting. It's like magic - the tiny little chip looks like one color, and then the big swatch magically changes to another color. I'm glad we can buy the tiny pots of sample paints!

I think there's something about how the sunlight comes into my kitchen that ends up making the yellow and red come out more in these colors... as a result, I am leaning towards some yellows that have more of an olive hue to them. I think I'm going to try Hawthorne Yellow and Fresh Butter.

Does anyone have experience with how light gets filtered into a room? If this room is making colors look more red and yellow than they look elsewhere, then what should I look for to get the color I want?

Have you looked at the color at different times of the day, especially at those times at which you are most likely to be in the room? I can't answer your exact question, but I can tell you that my yellow goes from yellow (SW Butter Up) to slightly more goldish yellow at night. Still very definitely yellow though. It never looks peach or brown. I am not sure how my windows filter colors, though.

Yes, I've been looking at the colors at ALL times of the day... morning, noon, night, sunny days, cloudy days, lights on, lights off... :-)

I went to the paint store today, and they were pretty helpful. They said if too much red is showing to look for a color that has more green. (the green cancels out the red... makes sense now that I think about it...)

So the two colors that seem to be standing out are Fresh Butter and Hawthorne Yellow. I'm also debating Barley and Vellum.

BTW, they gave me a great tip at the paint store: to grab several of the little paper strips of the color I'm interested in (say, Fresh Butter) and cut out the color I want from all the strips, and then tape the little squares together to make a bigger square. This will give me a chance to see the color in a bigger "swatch" before committing to the little $4 sample pot of paint (yeah, $4 doesn't seem like much, but I've already bought three and the colors, once "big," looked SO different from the little chip that I could probably easily go through 4 or 5 different sample pot colors, and it's going to really add up!)

This is BM Waterbury Cream in my kitchen-- a yellow thet tends toward green when compared with most of the other BM yellows I tried. This is just the type of yellow I was after . . . . {{!gwi}}

I bought a little sample pot of Barley and have it up on a posterboard now. Jury's still out. It looks awfully tan to me, but I haven't seen it in full daylight yet.

I may take a photo and post it for you all.

Our local BM store said Barley was one of their most requested colors, but we wanted something a lot lighter. We tried BM's "Milkyway" and their "Calming Cream." The paper strip with the colors shows that Milkyway has warm undertones. To us, Milkyway is a light, buttery "true" yellow (not reddish or greenish) and no gray undertones. Calming Cream might be considered more appropriate for a Craftsman-style home because it's a light yellow with slightly grayish undertones. We're going with the Milkyway. It's a very "happy" color. We had previously tried about 6 Rodda shades of yellow but none were right for us. They were all too red or too green! (Although we love Rodda's "Cottage White" - - a creamy white with definite yellow undertones which we're using throughout most of the house.)

We tried Golden Honey and I really wanted to love it, but it was too deep a color for me. After many, many samples
on our MBR wall, what I found helped me was to have my husband paint a very large patch of my two favorites.
It was between Golden Honey and Popcorn Kernel. The Popcorn Kernel is currently the front runner. It's far less mustard-ish and in our lighting leans very warm and
creamy.

Yellows are really hard. I found that it helped a bit to look up the BM formulas on their web site so as to try to understand the difference between two colors. Yellows with any black in them are going to be greenish.

Take a look at Kilz Sparkling Cider. You can find a swatch at Walmart. It is a beautiful warm golden yellow

Also WalMart Color Place Honey.

I used SW Jonquil in my whole house and found that when we repainted same color (as interpreted by BM) but had an eggshell the color was much easier to love. Yellow is a chameleon in light/dark rooms, sunny/ grey days but it is definitely a happy color. I'm going to try to back it down a notch in a new house -- BM Hawthorne Yellow or Golden Honey maybe?
