My banquette is done!(pics)

First, thanks to everyone for your advice in this project, I finally got the pillows made. I have included before and after photos.Special thanks to kitchenkelly for the table!

I bought the countertop towards the end of dec.... and yes, it was solid. We actually used the part we cut off to make 3 cutting boards. Ended up being Christmas presents. ;-) This is the one I bought : http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40057853/#/40057853 I'm pretty sure it was the beech one, but I can't find the paper now. DH used google sketch up to draw out what I gave him in graph paper - I need to wait till he's home to see if I can find that info... pretty much I used things like the drawings in this thread, http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg1009290030834.html , and also just measured our own chairs to see what was comfortable. As I said, we planned and planned and planned. And then when we actually started ripping the wall out and putting in the 2x4's etc, everything was a readjustment. Let's just say, dh and I realized we weren't always understanding one another as I tried to explain my vision to him. (but it all worked out in the end ;-P )

check out the 2nd pic in my album (not my home!) for my inspiration pic. And also check out my first pic which is where I'm thinking of putting one under both windows. I was thinking of using the same cabinets that I'm using in my kitchen to make a bench with drawers. Then I would buy pre-made cushions. Mine would be quite long and I'm hoping to get a 8+ foot table at some point. Do you have pics of your area? Here is a link that might be useful: banquette pic

Wow, thanks for all the great feedback. I am planning on using pillows for the back. The bench is 24" deep on the long sides. I plan to go to CC to look at fabric. I will keep sunbrella in mind. As requested here is a picture of the kitchen taken last xmas, before I painted (EK cognac.) The banquette is on the far wall under the windows. The paint is custom mixed to match the paint on the cabinets. Thank goodness for colormatch.

I lost some of my original comment somehow, so ETA this first paragraph: I think it's okay for kids, but tight for adults. We have casters on our table that make it easier to clean and when we had a banquette at our last house it was really handy to be able to roll the table around to get people in/out of the corner. It looks like you're planning a pretty heft table, so maybe casters is something for you to consider as well. *** Is your layout set in stone? I wasn't a part of your previous thread, so I don't know any of the backstory. A pet peeve of mine is when the fridge and dishwasher conflict; in my house everyone wants a drink or snack while I'm putting stuff in the dishwasher. This is how my 7'5"x12'6" kitchen is laid out. Priorities were keeping the fridge out of my work space and no corner cabinets. I debated the dw location, but ultimately, the oven and dw are never open at the same time, so tucked it at the end. Anyway. Just food for thought. You might be able to have a bigger sink if you went this direction...

Your kitchen has always been one of my favorites and it just keeps getting better. I've never noticed the paint color before. Can you tell me what it is?

Oh that is just adorable, Amy! It drips charm. Did you build the benches yourself? Did you sew both the cushions and the pillows?

That is so fabulous! The fabrics are perfect and the table looks great (but then I am bias.) It looks very rich against the white.

I love peonies (picked two buckets this weekend.) We have great taste, don't we?

Did you stain the table? If so can you tell me about that process. i am thinking of buying a similar pedistal table on CL and refinishing it.

I remember your first posts about this also. It's so fun to see the final product and it turned out BEAUTIFUL! I love the colors you chose. What a great eye you had to visualize that and carry it out.

It's really lovely, but I have to ask--why so many pillows? It doesn't look like there is enough room to sit, nor a place to put them temporarily to make enough room to sit.

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback! Laurie the paint is Cognac (Ellen Kennon). Lovestoshop the table was bought new. Oceanna the carpenter who did my kitchen built the banquette for me. I painted it to match my cabinets. I will post more pictures of the kitchen soon. Bungalow, funny you should ask about the pillows (ask me what is in the banquette storage space and I will tell you its 16 more pillows!) Actually the bench is really deep and the pillows are soft, so I don't need to move them. There is plenty of space, my husband has been known to stretch out and sleep on it.
P.S. Kelly, we do have great taste!

What a great space! That three footed table is such a great idea for a 'L' shaped banquet. It not only makes it easier to slide in and out of the area, but it look stylish too.

That's WONDERFUL!
What an absolutely perfect one-person hidaway or two-person intimate-chat space.
Those cozy little spaces are (IMO) what MAKE a house!

Just a side note, whenever I see your "nickname" I think Amityville in my head. Sorry. Not sure if you're old enough to remember that movie or not, but it was a creepy one.
