Oh no! My accent walls blended in! Help!

I can't believe this! After all my research, this happens!

I have SW Hopsack in the dining room and in the living room on one wall. SW Latte is the main color throughout the living room (it is open, with the Dining Room having 2 huge entrances into the living room...you know...that "great room" kind of effect).

Anyway, it looked like everything was going to be great. Even tried the big sample boards so I could test it all out.

We've had the latte up for 3 days now, and we can't believe our eyes. There is absolutely without a doubt, no "pop" of contrast. It only looks like there is a shadow effect or something. There is no way anyone would know there are different colors if we didn't tell them. GRRRRR!

I guess we'll redo the hopsack. Is there a green (or any other color) that goes nicely with latte? We put SW svelte sage in DH office. Just don't know if we want it elsewhere also.

Sorry for the rant. Thanks for listening. My head hurts. I appreciate all your suggestions!

I can see how that can happen, depending on how light comes into play. What about a shade or two darker than Svelte Sage on the same card?

Funcolors recommends going 2-3 colors away on the paint strip instead of using the one next to your main color for an accent.

I did my two-story living room and hall in SW Ivoire and the stair wall alcove in Blonde. Can't tell the difference at all. :(

As an update, I ended up ordering the ruffled ivory euroshams from eBay. I also decided I prefer to keep the duvet at the bottom of my bed so most of the pillow options I was considering don't look so well next to the ivory coverlet. Once the shams come in, then I will revisit if I want to add an accent pillow or not. I still like the butterfly pillow the best, though it's no longer available, so may just wait until I find that just right pillow. Meanwhile, I am thinking of replacing the gold sheers with ivory colored ones which should tie in nicely with the ivory euroshams. Thanks for all of the feedback!

Need help with wallpaper & accent wall for my basement

It’s the basement, L shape with very long walls, 30ft facing 16ft, 12ft the furtherest, 20ft facing 19ft. The small area will be used for kids playroom with a air hockey table and black chalkboard and the large area Will have a leather seating and tv. Sativa has a good idea for a high contrast design but I might be overwhelmed too much dark black. It would need the balance of lighter floors and the natural light from the windows which could make it stunning. I bought the same pebble tile at our local H H Restore to re do our tiny shower. I want bright white tile like your subway tile but hubby still wants a large format porcelain. The mix from the pebbles can work with many things. Remember when it is sealed the colors will deepen to what it looks like wet. You could use a midtone like the charcoal grout for your floor tile if you are keeping the walls lighter like a warm white, tape or grey from the pebbles. If you go with dramatic black walls, you need a lighter grey ,taupe or warm white for balance. With either color scheme choose a basic floor tile with a bit of texture to prevent falls. A rectified porcelain with touches both cool grey and warm whites and taupes would work with lots color schemes. Keep in mind you may change your style in a few years. So pick a classic with lots of options. It will be easier to change a dramatic paint color than a busy tile pattern.

When you do an accent you need to go at least two down otherwise it all looks the same as you found out.

I have SW Hopsack in the dining room and entry. Considered Latte but wanted just a tad bit more "drama". How about cutting the Latte with some white (1/2 or 1/3) and repainting the Latte walls? IRRC Kilim Beige is the next lightest color but that's probably too light. Wonder what a mix of Kilim Beige and Latte would look like?

OP here....how about latte and ancient marble or latte and grassland?

I still have my sample board with kilim beige. Guess what? Same problem. Just looks like there are shadows at play.

I googled images of sw svelte sage. Someone used a glaze of ancient marble and eclipse (same strip, 2 steps in each direction). Any thoughts on this?

BTW...how does glazing work? Is it hard to do?
