OH Boy, do I need your HELP!!
Comments (11)Plllog, thanks, yes, the alder will be just varnished. My daughter has natural alder for all her cabinets, and they are beautiful, but they do have a lot of color variation. I don't mind that at all, it's the look I'm going for, just started wondering what the two woods together would look like. I've been searching all day and can't find anything similar. And, I'm glad you said go real and not faux. I want a clean cabinet look, but it seems like most people say glaze with a rustic look. And, also the brushed look just appeals to me more. I LOVE the look of smooth, white cabinets, but it doesn't seem as "right" as for what I'm going for. About a year ago, when we took some cabinets out, I did try three different glazes on a door to see how it looked, but they appeared "dirty" looking. Lavender lass! Yes! that is the kitchen! Isn't it wonderful? I don't know who Allison is, I read every post on here, but in my own world, it probably has just flown over my head! I'll have to do a search and see if I can find her. I know the top part of the hood looks like it's most certainly copper, with the base being pine, I'm just wondering if it's copper over wood, or all copper. It looks smooth to me, can't quite figure it out. I think her ceilings are a lot taller than mine too, which could make a big difference on if it would work. Thanks for the info!...See MoreI have no idea what I'm doing. Help me design my bathroom
Comments (33)Benjesbride, where does she lose the 2"? It appears that she is not aware of the loss. Rebeccamomof123, are you pulling permits to do the work, or do you live in an area where the city/town/county inspectors are going to become aware of the work and expect to come in and inspect it? Or is your area more like where I live and anything short of an addition is something that no one will notice and that inspectors don't drop in when workmen are around unless it is really obvious that a big job is being done? The reason I ask is that your clearance for the toilet-to-tub distance is right on the edge of being okay. Some towns will not let you get that close. If you could get inspected by the code enforcement officer, or if you are doing this with permits, you need to draw this up and get it approved before assuming it is going to be approved. If you need to steal back a couple of inches to make it fit, one option is a wall-hung toilet. Your contractor opens up the wall behind your toilet and puts the tank and flushing works inside the wall (not the stuff you have, it is custom made for this purpose) and then the toilet part actually hangs off the wall and never touches the floor. It is much nicer for cleaning. All of Europe has been doing it this way for years, I hear. http://www.geberitnorthamerica.com/en_us/target_groups/enduser/products_enduser/toilets_2/concealed_systems_1/for_toilets_1.html...See MoreI need help with this flawed bathroom cabinet design
Comments (7)I prefer sconces on the sides of the mirrors if they fit. As far as the off center sink, since you aren't changing the vanities, then just embrace it. I would do a mirror just dedicated to the sink cabinet - not all the way across to that tall cabinet. Then put some floating glass shelves or something in between. Please head the advice about the freestanding tub in the corner... they are difficult to clean around if you can't get there. And just my personal opinion... don't paint the walls white - its just too much white on white on white for my tastes... Post pictures when you are done! Good luck!...See MoreBathroom help! Intense black & white tile, cramped layout, oh my :(
Comments (25)Art that doesn't take itself too seriously. and embrace it for now. It's funky...as much as checkerboard allover makes me slightly dizzy, I see the bigger problem in the layout. I'd save and research meanwhile. Plants are always good. If you ask me. I can see one on the tub edge. Something.. simple in care. I do see something Alice-in-Wonderland-y in there. I don't mean a theme. i mean-the vibe. If I see a metaphor in a space-it helps me a lot to connect to it, with all its mistakes and shortcomings. So. Maybe what you need for now, while waiting and planning for the big remodel-is finding your own metaphor?...See MoreMichelle Bishop
