HELP--need advice on drapes

So, I have bought drapes on a whim. They were too good to pass up...custom made, double hem, and one set is french pleat the other reverse pleat. They were on sale becasue someone didn't pick them up. Seeing as we are not in the house yet and nothing has been painting I thought, why not???

So here is my problem.

There are 4 panels. As I said one set is reverse pleat and they are striped, the other set are french pleat and they are floral. The are both from the same family of fabric and the colours in them are identical. They match PERFECTLY with the P&L Putty wall colour I had picked out.

Ques #1...Can I have these 2 similar but not identical drapes in the same room? If I have them in the Living room there is one window on one wall and another window on another wall.

Ques #2(if I can't go with the first option) Can I have these drapes on windows that share the same wall but the windows are in two different rooms? This would mean moving the Putty colour into the kitchen and family room.

If No to all of the above, I have to come up with a new plan as the drapes are not returnable.

personally...i'd use them in the two rooms, not in the same rom. that will give you planned look....verses an "on sale" look :o)

Wooohooo!!! Nothing like finding a fabulous bargain is there?

I agree with igloo about the 2 rooms. But...I also think you could do the 2 in one room. It depends on how the rest of the room is decorated. Some schemes could really pull this off, but the rest of the room would have to be perfectly done.

I don't think you necessarily have to the same paint colour in the kitchen. You could pull another colour out of the fabric that goes well with the putty.

Blondie!! I do remember. I offered to help you shop online for furniture or something right? Did you finally decide on something? If so what? Are you talking about the Grommet panels or the Back Tab panels? Do you have an IKEA by you? If not I think either can be ordered online. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the back tab style on a double rod with the sheers behind them on rings. Those are the panels with the texture. The other set (grommet) are cotton but don't have any texture to them. If I go that direction I want to hang the sheers in the middle, is that what you want to do? Both hang very nicely. I won't have mine up for a couple of weeks, but I have a pair of each sitting on my kitchen table. I can photo a close up of the fabric for you tomorrow. The Grommet drape is very similar to the Pottery Barn Cameron drapes but they're softer. Ikea has sets of all their drapes hanging and I thought they looked great, light and airy. Can't beat the price either, the back tabs are $29.99/pair and the Grommet panels are 19.99/pair. 57 inches wide, 93 inches long but the length is not formally hemmed that way they can be hemmed custom for any height. I like that. Hope that helps. LOL So what are you going to do with your sconces?

I'm a sewist, but I typically won't sew sheers for a number of reasons. First they are relatively inexpensive and readily available so no need to customize. (If necessary, I have shortened them...carefully.) Second, some of the fabrics are loosely woven and very squirrelly to deal with and difficult to sew to get square and make straight lines. Third, they look best with narrow hems on the sides and I don't have a serger. Making narrow hems with a sewing machine is a PITA. I also don't know of fabric stores that carry a nice selection of sheers. Usually they are into drapery and upholstery fabrics these days. So my suggestion would be to explore ready made first before deciding to make it yourself. I also agree that one color will look richer than a multi-colored treatment.

Just got back from HD where I purchased an 8' Martha Stewart fluted pole (1 3/8") a pole socket set, and 2 pkgs. of curtain rings. I really wanted a 2" rod but the diy savings was just too substantial to ignore. Thanks to justgotabme for the inspiration!

Ballard custom drapes? Or other custom drape options/advice?

Does anyone have experience with Ballard Design drapes? I would be especially interested if you used them for fabrication with fabric that you provided. I'm trying to get a feel for overall quality. Also, did you price out similar work with a local custom shop? I LOVE traditional drapes, but they are sooooo expensive to do in a custom fabric. Any advice in general would be greatly appreciated! I can sew, but to do a pinch/box pleat, line, weight and trim a full set of curtains is above my skill level. Thanks!!

Oh, boy. I for sure wouldn't do it in the same room.

I have two rooms that open up to each other and was told to do the same drapery and style in both rooms, since you see them both at once (upon entering). Do you see yours both at once?

Sounds like they are beautiful drapes---would love to see pics!

Personally, I wouldn't try to mix a stripe with a floral in the same room, even if they are identical color schemes. What would work would be to use one in the LR, and the other in the family/kitchen, and instead of having the same wall color in all, pick out another color that's predominant in the drape to use in the adjoining rooms, as long as it coordinates well with the putty color.
