Sept. 09 Block Lotto winner thanks you all

Hi everyone,

This has been a banner week for my mailbox. Thursday I received an order I had place from Quilter's Quarter AND a book shipment from Karpet (thanks, by the way; the books are perfect). Friday I got a box of FQ's, bacon & dark chocolate chip cookies, an apron and several other small gifts from a quilter friend in PA. Today (Sat.) I completed my trifecta by receiving my Sept. Lotto blocks from Calliope. They are pretty. I am still not sure how I am going to set them, but it will be intriguing, whatever I choose to do.

Thought you would enjoy seeing a photo of what I got today. I understand that Salijo is still sending me her contribution, so that will make it even more interesting.

Tha;nks again everyone who participates in these block lottos. It is really a fun proposition to attempt a new pattern, knowing that if you like it you may win enough blocks to make a quilt [without all the extra work]. On the flip side, if you don't care for the block, you never have to look at it or create another one again! So it's a win-win situation for all!

Everyone did a terrific job ~ I am going to say it again~ I am so jealous!!! And I am not the jealous type at all! I love Black and White, and I picked the block, so how could I not be jealous??? Just kidding..........(sorta)..........how many blocks did you end up winning?

You are so right about the Lotto - I am new to quilting, so it is an educational experience for me, and if I win, so much the better (I did win the 1st lotto I played - I think it was Feb).

Congrats again on your winnings.

I must participate in one soon, that seems like allot of great fun!! Must clear my plate first! Anyone ever able to do that???

I've been running the applique lotto twice a year, Jan./Feb. and July/Aug. alternating with the paper pieced lotto in April/May and Oct./Nov. This gives everyone two months to complete their blocks and gives us a month long break in between each. If there's enough interest, perhaps we could modify this, but so far (I think), everyone is pretty happy with this schedule. Next month I'll add this information to the sign up post. I don't know why I hadn't thought about doing so sooner. ;) Cathy

I have the blocks! It really is quite exciting. I'm still on my neighbor's computer, because we were sent the wrong router. But I promise pics of the blocks as soon as we are fully on-line.

Bringing this back to the top. Vicky thanks again for taking September. You homeschool, don't you? You should be getting busy with that now, aren't you? We still haven't had anyone step up to offer to take over the lotto. I was a little reluctant to volunteer, as I am a relative newbie on the forum and the winter months are busy ones for person in my business. I also thought somebody else might really want to coordinate it. If they do, that's fine. If nobody else wants to, I'd be willing to give it a try, and just continue to do it exactly how you've been doing it, since it works so well. I'm a little flaky, but I think I can manage. If nobody else wants to take it over, and I do, I hope to continue to submit blocks and have a chance to win if that is OK.....and may ask somebody else on the forum to do the drawing part of it. So, please if anyone else wants to do this, speak up now!

rivergirl, i received 12 in the mail (6 were mine! LOL), and I heard from salijo that she has 2 more for me that did not get into the lotto on time, but she is supposed to be sending them on. I still have some black & white's, so I may augment what I received to make a full quilt. I don't know what I will do for sashing/borders. Such a challenge still!

maggie_sue, you should definitely make room to try a lotto! I have participated in 3 I think, and now I've won one. This is so cool ... so little work, so great a reward.

Such beautiful blocks! Everyone did a great job.
I know it may be a long time, odessaquilts, but once you decide on a pattern and start your b/w quilt we'd like to see pics of your progress.TFS.

The great thing about doing the monthly lotto is that you really don't have to clear your plate to participate. In one or two evenings you can do your blocks, then get right back into whatever larger project you are working on. Like taking a short break, usually I go back to my projects with some renewed enthusiasm. It's a little bit of fabric and a little bit of time - plus the joy of almost instant gratification and the thrill of maybe winning. How can you beat that?!?

Salijo, the blocks arrived today, as I had hoped and they are glorious! What contrast between the black and white prints. I am going to have such fun putting this all together.

Thank you for getting them to me; it was incredibly generous.

I'll post a photo when I get them all put together into a top.
