calling all experts!! need help with paint color

Helping my parents with their kitchen..notsure how i ended up being their kitchen designer...haha. Anyway....the cabinets are ready to be painted and the finisher doesn't help choose colors just paints. They thought they wanted acadia white but felt it was maybe too creamy and then we looked at it next to the plain white with subtle glazing and they are torn (so am I) so we are thinking to go down one or two shades from the acadia white and do a subtle glaze. Does anyone know what that might be? PLEASE help if you can..we have to let him know by tues. and i am kindof freaking out over here...i know theres tons of experts out there!! thankx!!

I have acadia white cabinets.
What color are the other finishes in the room?
Do you know what color you're going to paint the walls?
The counter tops? How much light is in the kitchen?

Unfortunately I'm not an expert-far from one - but do you want the look of painted cabinets or of glazed?

Well they are using a java as the center island (very dark brown almost balck) using white marble for countertops. Not chose wall color yet but there is almost no exposed wall in the kitchen so its irrelevant anyway, they think they want a slight bit of glazing as the acadia white looks a little flat, and the floors look like an aged limestone but thy are porcelain...do you hve picture of your acadia white cabinets on this site by chance, mossfern? Thank you!

Mjlb: Yes! One bath could be accessible from hall. If you have ideas, I would love to hear them. I should have added I planned to eliminate entrance to Master closet from hall anyways. That's just weird to begin with. I really want my daughter (who will be the oldest child) to have her own bath, which is why I wanted to do the en-suite baths. In regards to thinking in 3D, trust me, I have....or trying to anyways. I have a program I use (not a professional but it helps with the visualization.) The bumping out is actually creating a larger family room below, which is why I want to do it, not just to create a larger Master. Plan has two fireplaces. Both are listed as optional, so I have so wiggle room there as well. This is a stock plan, Unfortunately a truly custom plan is not in the budget. I love so many aspects of this plan, especially the exterior.

I would have to see a pic of your streaking, I have had a "help streaking paint in bathroom" call before. and when I got there it was nothing more than contaminants had hit the wall and ran down. (soap/shampoo) this may or maynot be the case here to find out just use a wet rag and wash the area even if it has one coat of new paint, you will find that you can wash that paint right off. I also agree with everyone about buying real paint, you wont find it at lowes or home depot have you ever seen a respectable paint contractor standing in line at any of these places for paint. I have not, and doubt i ever will. now why would somone pay more to buy something IF they could get a better product for less? they wouldnt, contractors have to guarrantee thier products, and every one of the products from before mentioned places will consistantly Cost the contactor more in the end, great save 9 dollars a gallon on paint, dang it Now we have to do another coat to make it look good. Savings??? not even close. before painting over any paint with a sheen, it should be lightly sanded, to tell the truth, in my opinion you should sand between every coat no matter the sheen. but my clients want smooth walls. if walls were sanded you would have found the contaminants (dust would have stuck to them making them visable before paint) please give more description of the streaking.

Oldbat2be, thank you so much for the mock ups! This was the kick in the pants I needed to talk to my contractor. I forgot to mention that our w/d will be white too so the cabs will likely clash with those, so I think we've got to paint. mdln, good suggestion -- I'm pretty sure they are warm. I'll check and see if cool lights help. daisychain01, thanks, reveal hopefully coming soon! raven, I just looked at Krypton and it is beautiful. I'm going out to get some samples tomorrow and will paint a sample board of my top 3 colors and put it in the room and report back.

Hello, first of all I have SW Pure White on my cabinets and it is definitely a nice white but not as creamy as you think, it reads "pure" white. The inspo pic looks much like a greige, here are a few suggestions on the greige chart. Maybe Balboa Mist? I have classic gray on my walls and it is a warmer gray. I love it.

Can anyone give some advice here..we are really under the gun and i was sure with all the experienced people who have done white and cream kitchens here there would be a flood of advice....basically bottom line is
Ã¯Â¿Â½ they do want subtle glazing
Ã¯Â¿Â½ acadia white is a little too creamy
Ã¯Â¿Â½ they want a shade or two lighter than acadia white
Ã¯Â¿Â½ any idea what that might be?

What is the styling on the cabinets? Plain Shaker or something else?

Its I guess you would say a paneled english style, has a raised panel. a kind of formal looking panel. not plain at all, exposed hinges.

In that case I would say don't glaze, but that is strictly my taste and opinion. I think your best bet is to have them find pictures that they like with similar cabinets and tafigure out if they're glazed or plain. Or let the person you're ordering from look at the pictures and help you. Is that doable?

My Acadia White cabinets- cararra marble counter tops. The walls are SW 'Dressy Rose' which is really a mauve. The floors are a bit orange, but that was from my previous kitchen. I may refinish them to a more neutral brown..or not. We have since put the cabinet door on the dishwasher and I think I will trade out those pewter knobs with wooden ones painted the same as the cabinets despite the objections of my carpenter and painter. It all depends on the look you're going for. I will be asking those here just what to do with the color of my table which is still the color from the old kitchen. We are keeping the rug because the kids are attached to it.
