Lovely room. Would you consider changing your blind to a white one? I know it is the same color as your chair backs but next to the wallpaper it stands out too much. IMHO. I believe your white beadboard would be okay then. And how about a pretty rug under your table...something with low pile so your chairs would slide on it.

bonniee, I Googled images of 'painted beadboard in dining area', and came up with these in the link below. There are very few that are painted a color other than white.

I also think that what you have now is beautiful, and doesn't need to be painted.

Thank you so sweetly grandmaof3 & my3dogs.......I keep toying with the idea of painting the beadboard but I just may not be used to so much white in one galley kitchen and will have a blast looking at the pics on the link you posted! I could change the textured blind but you know that blind was left here and has grown on me because it picks up on the wood tones of the furniture and doors in the kitchen and keeps things interesting.I do see your point though Will do a virtual on the computer and see what works best - thanks for that suggestion...a modern zig zaggy type rug would probably look great -give it some more color and color I am after I think! Whether it is in the wallpaper or with accessories I love color. We are knocking out the wall between the DR and kitchen halfway for a breakfast bar area not this weekend but next so maybe the color in the other rooms will help it feel more colorful too. You all are the best and thanks so much for all the helpful info and suggestions.......sometimes you just need fresh eyes to look at things!

I agree that the window treatment creates too much contrast and adds heaviness that isn't seen in the wallpaper, chairs, etc. Do you need that type WT for light control and privacy?
Difficult to tell from the photo, since on my monitor the left portion of the beadboard looks like a light yellow, but is the lower portion painted white-white or the creamy white seen in the damask?

Don't know yet if I like or not, thinking - I like the continuation of white color but then it just adds more white .........:) We do need privacy....this room faces the street on the front and we are in town. Beadboard painted Dover white like kitchen cabinets - soft white color - can't tell from pic but on the other wall opposite window......louvered wood stained folding doors for laundry room area and floors do have the brown in them too. What if you painted the bottom the darkest color in the wallpaper? I also think the pattern in the cushions is fighting with the pattern in the wallpaper. I don't think the darker shade looks bad but the cream would look ok too.

This is my virtual of painted beadboard. I like your suggestions about the white covers but we have black appliances so chair bottom kinda ties in with kitchen area. I didn't pick out things for this house.....it was sold as is, ha! Either SS would be in here. Thanks for your help!!!! Appreciate all the suggestions everyone is giving me and making mental list!

I'm kinda thinking like Caminnc -- paint the beadboard the darkest color in the Wallpaper. Alternatively, paint it the lightest shade in the Wallpaper.

The window covering doesn't strike me as being "off" because it seems to match the chair backs. The cushions coverings are nice but don't seem to fit. Maybe the cushions should be in a solid color
or a smaller pattern matching the wood and window shade.

Thanks everyone! I know everything isn't perfect yet but lots to do in each room in this place. The fabric on the chairs came from our home on Lake Washington that matched the custom wt I had my window treatment lady make for Breakfast rm and kitchen there so it was kinda like a tag along.......been with us 9 yrs.....time to make a change into something more modern but have to live with it for now. Big projects are on the burner right now so kinda thinking of just painting for now ......even some people still love that Robert Allen fabric. I am a wee bit tired of it since 2004 .......ha! I don't mind all the other discussions....been here before and everyone kinda brainstorms and that makes it fun! Thank you all SO MUCH I am sure my virtual color is off.....I am thinking of that color in the wallpaper.....sagey sort of yellow green color. Will trot over to Home Depot and see what I can dig up.......happy decorating! For funzies, I posted pic of DH holding up 2 inch blind found in garage. Still like my shade though. back & forth , ha! I think the last picture you posted with the beadboard painted darker looks great. To me it is richer and more sophisticated than the white. I think the woven wood blind looks better with the darker beadboard color too. Good luck with the rest of your decorating and remodeling.

I like it better too and my young neighbor who is twenty something likes it also....This is the first time I ever had a totally white kitchen and it was because of it being a galley one and 8ft ceiling that we were trying to keep it same one color to create height and spaciousness BUT I want personality also so here I go. Only small amount to paint and should be done before the HOme Depot installer gets here with new vanity top to put in. Thank you so much for great suggestions and the good luck.!!! The angle of that last photo definitely shows the true size of the room....thanks for posting it! I like the blinds since they give a lighter, brighter feel. But hey, that's just my opinion. : )
And.........I have to agree with Caminnc's comment about the cushions re: color vs pattern.

You have a lot going on with remodeling, so waiting on the window treatment may be wise at this point. Hanging some simple panels on each side of the window, along with the blinds, would change the whole feel of the room, but I understand you wanting to stay with the current WT.
I think the white is 'glaring' at you because of all the other dark colors in the area and it appears to be the only white anywhere except for the flower stand. Finish the rest of the tear-out........and the white may grow on you!

Thank you Annz! Went to Home Depot and got a lil sample of paint. Don't know when I will try it as have to go get barstools in the Delta at my daughters apt. probably tomorrow. Need them so the contractor can get the bar area the right height. A lot happening but we will get it done.:) Will keep you all posted on progress.

I like the painted bottoms and the woven blinds-- I think the blinds really pull the woods and the wallpaper together into a cohesive look. I'd linger there too long with my coffee and laptop :)

I'm with funky art. I really like the blind you have and think a darker shade of paint on the bottom is what is needed. The white blind cheapens the look in my opinion. The darker makes it seem richer and more grounded.

I only have a very small amount to do so should not take long. Just frog tape it off and roll her on! If I am reading this correctly, the beadboard is actually wallpaper?? If that is the case, you will need to prime it with oil based primer, since the latex paint will lift the paper, if you dont. The oil based primer will seal it, so you can use the latex paint to paint it.

cat ky, that paper is made to accept paint.

I'm with funkyart and daisychain: Darker green/yellow paint and the bamboo blinds. It pulls everything together: wallpaper, chairs, floor, door, armoire. It's a very pretty room. Maybe different art work?

Thanks everyone! I have the perfect match of paint from HOme Depot.....got it last night and tried on wallpaper that I had left over. Was very good!!! yay! I like your suggestion nosoccermom about different artwork as the present one doesn't really work because of scale in this house. ALL of my artwork just about is too BIG. ugh! But good excuse to buy more I guess......:)
