It won't look bathroomy when you get kitchen stuff in there, I promise. I'd wait until I got all my stuff in before deciding on the door color, and not JUST because I like to procrastinate, but it might help you decide.

It is sooo pretty. I think when you get other things in, the light reflections will change because you'll have more surfaces for the light to bounce off.

Thanks again. You guys were right! I got the furniture back in except for the fridge and a bottom cupboard (that needs finished). I DO love it now. I was so excited I even huffed and puffed and pushed the big pantry cupboard from the bedroom, down the hallway and into the pantry. I kind of hate to put anything more in because it will hide some of the walls. :) I didn't want to show you the door until I got it painted, but I was too excited. I's pretty bad.

The cabinet to the right of the stove will eventually be gone, and the fridge will be to the left of the sink.

Yeah, my back and legs are hurtin' some this morning but it was so worth it. Thanks for all the suggestions and encouragement.

It is gorgeous! I particularly love the balance between the ceiling and the green cupboard on one side and the ceiling and the orange hallway on the other side. That's what makes everything work so beautifully, IMO.

I absolutely adore your kitchen. I love your furniture/cupboards and beadboard. It is simplicity at its best. What color is your beadboard? Congratulations on such an awesome job. Enjoy your new space.

how did you apply the primer ? and why did you have a painter ?? did he spray it on ?? etc. please explain if you would. I do hate painting and I know spray looks nicer than a brush finish. At least what I have seen.
Cause Hubby wants to put either the 5 or larger boards up on the walls in this combo kitchen LR.
debating still whether to go vertical or horizontal. He put the ceiling on( vaulted)., several years ago, the 5 or so inch v boards . He just 'oiled the pine for a natural looks. Looks nice.
But since( Like I mentioned before he does not want drywall ( cause of the mess. e he has down the hardwood flooring
. Like I might have mentioned this Lake house has been in progress for several decades..... the kitchens cabinets were finished several weeks ago...
I think I read it would be better for us to paint or whitewash each pine board before installing. What do you all think ?? someone mentioned that the seams would chip etc... if my memory serves me

I love this. It looks like a blend of the kitchens of my Aunts Florence, Annice, Mary, Ruth, And Louise! Seriously, I had to look and see if you were from Northern Maine! Sigh, I miss them all.

Now more than ever I want to replace some damaged drywall ceilings with beadboard.

I used a 4" brush to paint the primer on the walls and ceiling of the pantry because I had read that you need to make sure the paint gets into the grooves, esp. the ceiling because indiv.boards were used there. On the walls, the contractor used beadboard panels, still real wood but grooves are not as deep. When I started the kitchen walls, I experimented with a roller and found out that rolling the primer on worked fine, got into the grooves well enough with just some touch-ups. On the ceiling, used the brush again. The primer was shellac-based because it is suppose to stop the tanin or knot holes in the wood from bleeding through. We shall see.

I hired a painter because I did not feel up to doing the entire process again with the top coat - double coats. Plus I had caulked all that I could or wanted to do, and the painter generously agreed to touch it all up. He did a great job. He used both a roller and a brush where necessary.

Yes, I read alot of articles on how to paint beadboard and also many suggestions on this forum; and many said to paint the boards first. I did not, and I fully expect some shifting and cracking in the seams. With my old house, the walls shift and crack all the time! The contractor nailed and glued the beadboard when installing tho. I was just in too much of a hurry to take the time to paint each board.

Oh, Schoolhouse - we have some blue ceilings in our house, too, it is common down here, and when I looked at your first pictures I thought 'oh no, it's too blue, she isn't going to like that'. But when you moved the furniture back, especially the green cupboard, it looks delightful, what a great old-fashioned kitchen.

Schoolhouse, your kitchen is more than beautiful--it's such a warm and welcoming space that takes me back to my childhood. The colors are wonderful! I love the green pantry, the beadboard skirting your wonderful sink, your stove (just like my Grams!), and your cupboards and work table. I could live in that kitchen, cooking and baking everyday with occasional breaks working in the garden and flower beds (I imagine your house with wonderful flowerbeds and a big garden in the backyard). How happy I would be!!

As far as the beadboard question someone asked - I have about 42" of it (white) in my guest bath. I had my contractor prime it (sprayer)and then install it, but then I painted it by hand (brush) for the final coat. The beauty is in the details. Good luck!

Your beadboard is great but your white cupboards and table slay me! I also want your double sideboard sink. We only have the single version but I hope someday it will grow up like yours, lol....

Your floors should also be mentioned because they work so nicely with all the other elements and bring it all together.

I would not sweat the ceiling color as you can always go lighter next time and without doing all the hard work of priming and hiding the knots and getting perfectly in the grooves. A ceiling is also easier to re-do after the fact as there are fewer obstacles on it. I had second thoughts on 2 of our colors so far and after trying to like them for a while, broke down and repainted. Their colors had been fine, but just not what I had hoped for. I went a shade lighter for one and 2 darker on the other. Then, each one felt just right. I'd give it time to see how it sits with you. I felt it was easier to re-do sooner than too far later on after being out of the mode of painting.

It is beautiful. Very fresh and clean looking. I for some reason imagine a breeze blowing through your window making imaginary white cotton curtains flow in that breeze and fresh white linens hanging on the line outside with a wicker basket on the grass next them. Very peaceful.

Oh ny...simply beautiful. I didn't know all the charming pieces that you had in your kitchen. I can smell the homemade cookies all the way to my house. Just perfect.

I got my blue matched to the old boards today at Sherwin Williams in their Duration flat . I will paint after my GC's helper finishes the caulking. He did the primer today and will caulk tomorrow. We are having damp weather so takes longer to dry. He used a brush to trim in the edges and then a very very thick roller to prime. Looks wonderful and took one coat. I am so excited.

I have a table exactly like yours in my sunroom. I didn't paint it though and it has the white top with the tiny bit of red at the edge.
