It's not the jpeg format that's the problem, it's the low resolution- 40k

The author of the picture must have the high resolution jpeg you need, maybe the blog author who posted this would have it or at least know the source of the photo. It's very cute and the colors are fun.

truzella...What I would do is save the photo to your computer and then put it in photoshop and check out the quality...I found it to be 72 dpi...300 is better for printing, so I would change it to 300 dpi. It looks like it is about 5" X 6".
I would print it on either glossy or matt photo paper or once you have it a good quality, you could put it up on Shutterfly and have them print it out for you.
I meant to mention that there might be some copyright rules that apply with copying a photo from the internet, although it is usually OK to do if you are using it for your own use and not selling it.

I changed the image size to 8.73M...now it should be plenty large enough for a good quality print.

I love this JPG and saved it and was going to suggest the same thing. It is fun, colorful and unique.

I've worked professionally with Photoshop for 15 years and I've found that no matter what you do in Image Size, you can't make a low-res image look sharp and enlarge it. I sure wish there were!

You can change the setting to 300 dpi, but if you print it out, you will see that it looks exactly like the 72 dpi image. Same for changing the size of the file. It may be larger in size, but it will still be blurry. If the extra pixels aren't there to begin with, changing the dpi just breaks up the existing few pixels into smaller pixels (does that make sense?).

Unfortunately, you can't add more pixels if they're not there to begin with. The only way to make it truly 300 dpi is to reduce it to about 25%, which is not what you're looking for, I know.

Your best bet would be to do what mitchdesj suggested: see if you can find the original of it.

Great image--I hope you can track it down. There's bound to a print somewhere, if you can find the original name of the artwork.

Thanks everyone. The site where I found it was 2007 and doesn't seem to be a response tab to try and locate the originator. I have looked on the different poster sites, no luck there either. You have mentioned changing the dpi. How do I do that?

The only other thing I was considering is finding someone who paints with water color. I think this would be a wonderful print in water color. Any thoughts to this end ladies & gents?

truzella...I added the link to the photo at 300 dpi in my post above. I tried printing it out on heavy wt matt paper and it prints up very nicely.
You might want to try it & see what you think. I think I am going to frame it! It goes with my room!

brugloverz9, I printed the link you sent on regular paper and put a magnet on it to put on my filing cabinet. I did this as soon as I saw the link and fell in love with the picture. I love the picture and must find a place for it in the house and then I will print it up on heavy weight matt paper. Thank you!

Can I take the link that you created and save it to my thumb drive and then take it to some place like Kinko's to have it reproduced on the heavy paper that you are referring to? I don't have a color printer.,..

Do you think this can be printed on 16 x20? If not what is the maximum?

truzella, this is a great question since I would like to also know the maximum size the picture can be printed. If it can only stay small, then I may just get a small frame and put it in my middle bathroom upstairs that has Deep Cream walls, bone sinks, toilets and bathtub, ivory accessories and a green parachutte pretty shower curtain. I will have to see how the green in the picture goes there. If not, maybe I will just do a small picture in my spare room upstairs that I use for an exercise room.

I think the best way to know the max. size it might look good in is to upload it to Shutterfly and try out different size options. They will tell you which size will look good enough and which won't.
I will try it and if I find out, I will post their answer back here.

Shutterfly says it is good up to 20x30, but I have my doubts on that unless you don't mind if it is less sharp. You can also see what kinko thinks...
With this photo I don't think it matters so much if it isn't sharp, as it would look more like a watercolor I think.

I tried your photo at both costco site and shutterfly and they both tell me that even a 4X6 is not recommended because of lack of resolution.

I don't know why then I am getting the results from shutterfly that I am. I just tried it again.

I am wondering if the picture trail site that I use could be reducing the quality of the photo? Because the one that I have in my own computer file gives me the reading it does at Shutterfly. I could try e-mailing my file to one of you and you can see yourself if that changes it.

At the costco site, the photo file that I have in my computer, says it will print up to a 16x20, but the quality is not good for the 20X30.
If anyone would like a copy of my file, e-mail me and I will send it to you.

I found an artist named Jacqueline Osborne, whose painting "Afternoon on the Boardwalk," is eerily familiar, except the women have been rearranged and now they're dressed in black! Even the shoes are the same.

I also found a site where a craftsperson was showing some stamping she'd done on a notecard of our original colorful five ladies. They're out there somewhere....

It might be worth trying...because it comes to me from Shutterfly and also costco sites that it would print at 16x20.

I googled the artist's name, here's her site; the five girls dressed in black is one of her prints, but it's not the same title as the link posted above of the same poster.

Seems to me that the print linked by the original poster was inspired by the girls dressed in black....

The picture I am seeing on the screen currently at 16 x 20 looks good ... do you think if I ordered a print at that size that it would look like the one on the screen? Would the paper they use for printing be suitable for framing?

Yes, I think the photo from them would be suitable for framing. I tend to like the matt finish better than gloss.

As it turns out I do have another question. Where do you recommend that I have the print framed? Anyone know of a reasonable vendor?

My walls are a greyish purple. The other dominate color is green (similar to the color in the lady's dress) my office furniture is white. I was thinking of a silver frame but not sure of the mat color. Any thoughts?

Most of my framed pictures I take to Aron Brothers and look at their frames and try different matting to see what I like and do it myself. It is quite costly to have them frame it and I think I can do as good a job. The person in the framing area will often even give their opinion of a matt color & frame selection.
I just tried it with a white matt with a second matt under it in black. Only a very small amount of the black is showing. I like the look, just be sure the white matt is the same white as the photo as the one I have it creamy and doesn't look good.
