How to remove hanger bolt?

We're replacing the pedestal sinks in our bathroom with a modern-style vanity (granite top, glass vessels, etc.). The old sinks have been removed, but were fastened to the wall with hanger bolts, which have about 1-1/2" of thread sticking out of the wall. I'm pretty sure they are screwed into studs in the wall.

Unfortunately they are at a location that will interfere with the installation of the new vanity. Does anyone know how to remove hanger bolts? Is there a special reverse-threaded bolt I have to get, or should I just try to grab onto the shafts with a big pair of locking pliers and try to get them out that way?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
