Wood would look nice, and still have the old world, natural look that marble has. ... But what are you using your butler's pantry for? I have a delicate top in mine because it's for tableware storage and staging of meals in the dining room. I have easy care, high function surfaces in the kitchen.

pllog, our butlers pantry is well, more of a pantry. We will have a coffee bar there & i'm worried about staining.

Here is a photo of my pantry with wood counters. I finished the counters myself with a product called Profin. It was easy to apply but took awhile. It is water resistant and I love how it looks and cleans up.

What you have is a kitchen pantry--not a butler's pantry. The latter are used the way plllog uses hers: dishes, serving pieces, staging for dinner, cleanup, etc. Just clarifying so you get better feedback.

Wood is a good suggestion. You want your pantry to be attractive, but there's no need to waste budget to impress the cereal.

I have marble perimeter counters and a cherry wood countertop in my pantry area (which is used for food storage and coffee prep, and desk area. It has an undermount bar sink, too.) I chose plank-style cherry, not the thin butcherblock type. I think that would look great, and appropriate, for your described space.

The house I grew up in was a late 1800's Victorian with a proper butler's pantry. It had wood plank counters and painted cabinetry. (No idea what the regular kitchen's counters were, they'd been ripped out by the time we bought the house...)

Another thought- zinc or pewter. See a recent post from mtnrdredux called my "zinc" counters with a contact company.

The pewter or the zinc would look great with the Statuary.
